Post by Nic42 »

Hi there,

Is anyone else experiencing that the new Hilux have an extremely bumpy ride?
Have someone changed something on the suspension?

Have you checked the tyre pressure? Should be around 2.2bar

my 2.5 D4D is alot softer ride than my dad's 3.0 D4D
we checked everything from suspension to tyres
i have 16" rims / he has 15"
has resulted in him changing tyres which made it better but still not close to mine
try putting weight on the load bin and see if that helps (2 bags of cement)
we still havent been able to find out why there is such a difference in ride quality between the 2

Thanks for the reply Jeepie. Did you test the quality with the sement bags on your fathers bakkie?
I was planning to go and buy sand bags today.

Hi Nico

Depending on how much you’re willing to spend, go and see Darrel from Mikem suspension in Johannesburg.

Mikem are agents for Bilstein fully adjustable/fully serviceable shocks that Darrel can setup to suit your needs. You will never need to buy shocks again.

Front spacers is an aftermarket product installed above the front coils to give more lift and ultimately a "level" appearance. Stay away from these..

we did add the bags and it softened it up
the rule of thumb (as given by someone else) was that if it shakes in the front , its coming from the rear and vice versa.

i suggested changing out the shocks but the old mans head is hard
further than that the 2 are identical
i would as legend says , take it past daryl or you can try freddy at alpha spring works
