Isuzu 2.8 TD in a Hilux SFA/IFS?

Post by Jaco Versfeld »

Good day,

Has anyone considered transplanting a 2.8 TD Isuzu (4jb1) engine into a SFA/IFS? If so, what are the advantages and disadvantages of such a transplant?

(The Isuzu 2.8 TD yields good fuel consumption, think it gives in the region of 10 -12 km /l)

Rumour has it that Land Rover in Australia used Isuzu diesel engines in their vehicles at some stage, and these are the only popular Land Rovers in Aus.

I hear the JMC 2.8 TD is a 4jb1 or a copy thereof, so spares might still be available for a while for these engines ...

Someone phoned me a few weeks ago for a quote on that conversion, yes it is possible and it will work well, there is a bell-housing available, the fuel consumption on those motors is unbeatable.
The only problems are, you have to tell your friends what you have done and you can't sneak home in the early hours, the whole neighborhood including your deaf skoonma will hear you coming.

Thanks Allan,

How reliable are these engines?

How would it compare to the Mazda/Ford 2.5 TD?

What will such a transplant cost?

Thanks,
Jaco

Jaco, 'n vriend van 'n vriend het 'n Kezoes met meer as 'n miljoen(!) kilo's op. Ook die 2.8. Bly in Magaliesburg, werk naby Alex, Jhb. Maar hy's goed opgepas. Paar minute se idle voor afskakel, etc. Soos enigiets kan jy hom seker ook deurtrek, maar ek dink dis goeie motors.

I also had a 2.8TD and loved. One of the best diesel engine ever made according to me.

My broer het sy '97 Isuzu 280td op 495000km verkoop met dieselfde enjin en turbo, nie aan geraak nie. Baie goeie enjins, laat idle hom net bietjie voor jy hom afsluit. 'n Week na hy verkoop is is hy gesteel by die man wat hom gekoop het
