Hi Luke

Welcome to the forum

Your van looks good!

This site is causing me to want a SFA Hilux. Made me realise that they are actually the best and best looking
Hilux ever.

Saw a single cab 4x4 today and couldn't stop staring.

Hopefully next year I'll be able to buy a double cab SFA, with v8 Lexus motor.

Enjoy

Hi ToyX4

Well you are not wrong 8) The old SFA is great a reall work horse and as far as reall tough 4x4`s go you cannot beat it  . Though with some mods the new Vans can be almost as tough with the added bonus of looking good for the ladies :!:  8)

SFA handbrakes are notorious for not working well if at all. There are quite a few guys here that can tell you stories of Hilux handbrakes especially if you park with your nose uphill, they do not work well in reverse. I snapped 2 cables in the last 18 months due to me pulling the thing too much in trying to stop the vehicle from rolling backwards.

It must be one of the few bad points on a Hilux. You must me do as TopHilux Hilton and I did. Make peace with it and carry a large stone or brick with to throw in front of the wheel when parking. Remember Jamie Uys in "The Gods must be crazy"

Bennie, it must be a Toyota 4x4 thing. The cruiser guys often complain about it and I know from my own cruiser, that it fades very quickly after adjustment. My 2 hiluxes however haven't given the same issue and on both the hand brake worked very well.

Must say that both my 2.7i & 4Y hand brakes are extremely effective. Tried the hand brake out at Zeerust when my Weber did its Weber thing (stalled on a steep incline) and it held perfectly. Maybe the imported hand brakes are more successful than the local ones?

The SWB hand brake is not very effective, however, might be adjustment, but it certainly comes nowhere near the other two vehicles in that department.

right so the list has grown and slowly getting the jobs done

have done the rear indicators, which needed rewiring, flushed coolant, rear tail lights, horn, gearbox seal being done this week and have determined that the handbrake cable is still in one piece it just doesnt hold.

Question do they stretch? it doesnt seem to be adjustable to a point where it will hold?
A friend reckons it may be the brake shoes so will have them checked asap.

and the best bit is that it rained so went and played in the mud in the lux! Loving it!

Right so I may have made a rash decision:

I swopped the lux for this jeep below!

Its a original 1942 Willys and was overhauled approx 2 years ago!

Goes lekker!

Ha ha ha just joking havent completly lost it! this is my folks jeep on the farm. Lekker toy and its great in the mud!

Its what I learned to drive in many years ago.

Ok so sold the SFA a few months back and now have the D4D SRX D/C 4x4

Pics below.

Definately miss some aspects of the old SFA but am loving this vehicle just as much.

Still lots to do:

Priorities:

1: Mikem suspension for front
2: Decent Tyres
3: Canopy

What I have done:

1: custom bash plate- 4mm steel
2: UHF/VHF radio with two antennas-for use in ORRU rescue
3: Rear towbar and hi-lift mounts and brackets
4: roof bars
5: Added Tonnoue cover
6: Hela spots

Some pics attached from Sani Pass and from recent ORRU training, magnetic stickers I change to suit work, or ORRU applications.
cheers
Luke
