Kia and Hyundai come of the same production line (Ford/Mazda).

Kia is promoted in SA as the premior brand, of the two.

We have owned Hyundai and have no complaints.

Actually drove behind a Picanto today - seems slightly bigger than the Aygo....

The ONLY issue - like it or not, the "Toyota" badge has a better resale value ..... If you are going to keep it for a good few years putting on serious milage it probably wont matter

Well, things have developed
Got my Aygo back, however not without a bad taste
last week Thursday got hit by hail, and toyota excess is 20k, in some cases 10k on their loan cars
feel that if my car was right from the factory, I wouldn't of been friving their loan car
so have pushed for toyota to pay part and me to pay the other part
eventually the work shop manager managed to get me a quote for 3k
car has already been fixed, however waiting to see what toyota comes back with

any case, motor is quiet, and this time me running it in my way

however, Aygo is going soon
doing a deal on a kia Picanto
just need to decide on the color

rev counter is coming out, as that is an extra, and I get nothing for that
sure sooner or later will get it sold or have an ornament from the Aygo days :cooldude:

What about your short term insurance - "public liability" ..... driving the loaner was "not your doing", just maybe they will cover the excess ....

I also feel it is bull that you have to pay.
It is not as if you caused an accident and if there was not a problem with your car you would not need to use their car.

Well all the paperwork is done, license department, police clearance and new disk with new details

Aygo motor sounds good this time, however these days of forced running around and dealing with issues that toyota should of dealt with, has left me highly peed off
further pushing to that kia picanto, not that I need any pushing
chose a white one, and it on route, believe some of the truck drivers went on strike
other wise it would of been here already
believe it has been dispatched, however by this afternoon it had not arrived, hope for tomorrow

oh yes the rev counter is out, and available for sale R1600, with all the covers
Think Pieter paid over 3k

will post it later in the for sale section

feels strange driving it without the rev counter :cooldude:

Well with my cousin here have done over 1300km already
worst fuel consumption 14.5km/l that included about an hour of idling and bumper to bumper due an accident on the highway
to the best when I filled up today of 16.6km/l
on board computer is not accurate it was showing 5.4l/100 km witch works out to 18.5km/l

motor is quiet and sounds good, this is to me a big thing after the Aygo issues

Lights are on permanently, and switch on and off auto as it gets light or dark or when I get home and switch off engine
seats are great
ride is harder then the Aygo ride, due to the 50 profile tires that it comes with

my own stupid fault
damaged front left mud flap, went to kia to buy one, R110, they gave it to me. Was pleasantly surprised
think the aircon is electrically driven, as I really don't feel a difference with it on of off, and it's been on most of the time

am enjoying the radio controls on the steering
more space inside

clutch feel is vaige, and takes some getting used to
and the motor so quiet it's easy to sound like a learner driver :lmao:

and it does very well off road
went, to go see Panjo, and took the wrong vehicle, and they had a major storm the night before :cooldude:

Nice reports...I drive a different company VW every month and I'm blown away by the low fuel consumption of even the bigger vehicles.......as far as compacts are concerned I just love the 1.6TDi Polo with 250Nm's and also about 20km/l....the 1.2TDi with 185Nm is a bit pap before the turbo comes in, but wil give you closer to 30km/l...only problem is that you will pay VW prices for VW quality.....

Extended warenties are great
however

For the warenties to be valid one needs to have the vehicle serviced at toyota, at toyota price
Oil filter at toyota for Aygo, post it here a while ago, think R140
oil filter at jeep dealer for the jeep R95

so toyota scores by extending the warenty and having one service the vehicle at toyota for longer for not being willing to sort out the issue that has arrisin from a defective product from the factory
second
the new motor had a noticeable power difference as it was right. It also sounded good
did not have time to see the difference, however suspected(strongly) that fuel consumption could of also been better
no piston slap, no compression escaping, hence better efficency

maybe I'm just sower with my toyota experience and attitude

Só fuel goes up tonight so I filled up

414.6km traveled
25.871L
16.0256658km/l
6.23999035l/100 km

not as good as the Aygo
suppose there is a price to pay for the extra pot and ponies
however on hills, easy to maintain speed

will see how it does once things return to normal and normal daily trips without driving family around

Update

last tank was also 16.3x km/l
very similar to previous ocasion/tank

today got a trip to Pretoria, so though I would fill up just to see what it does today
its was coolish last night, so should of gotten in a little more, giving me a slight wosrts fuel consumption couz it would of tacken a little more
and we spilled a little trying to get in as much as possible

so had traveled 198km
took 11.39L

giving 17.3836699km/L or 5.75252525L/100

good enough for me

will see what future tanks will return

Food for thought: 1300 Tazz, down to Port alfred and back up, plus driving around there: 12,9k/l.
Loaded with 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 weeks worth of baggage plus all of baby's stuff.
No monthly installments. But also no aircon...
I feel a lot less wise at 45 than I did at 15.

Hear what you Mickey
and makes some sense

however part of my plan was to get a small run around that needs to last me till I retire

remember it started when I was still driving a 1.3 opel corsa

update

filled up today
so on this tank
the Pretoria trip went well and all was going well
then someone said there had been a supitiouse car in the street
next day my alarm went off at home and security company called me, so I raced home, yep the 1.2 goes ok :laugh2:

then have done a lot of short trips to the vet up the road as our 9month old boerboel puppy is sick
wife drove my car to the shops
Have tested it twice, just quick

560.6km traveled
Used 32.728L
giving 17.1290638
5.83803068L/100

The on board computer is not 100%
Looking for faults :laugh2: it displayed 5.3l/100 km

the car is advertised as 5l/100 km
self am not getting that

suppose if I stuck to 100km/H then it might do the 5l/km

yep the Aygo was better on fuel
however this easier on the hills, hence more relaxed drive
am enjoying the built in blue tooth wih the controls on the steering
also enjoying the tray under the passanger seat

the lights have an auto option
put on and forget about it
During the day lights will be off, when it gets dark they come on automatically

all for now :cooldude:

Seems like the Aygo is one of the very few Toyota's that sells below its book value

I contacted a dealer to see if I can trade it in on a Jimny
The replied with
"Book value is R82000.00 we can offer you R70000.00"

GEEN - verwysing na wat n beter voertuig is nie, net die ekonomie van 2de hands vs nuut ....

in die prysklas moet mens maar so 5jaar plus vashou - tot die verskil tussen dit en die nuwe voertuie se pryse groter is ...

Howzit the Aygo Pieter

the picanto is now over 5000km
am still enjoying it

last two tanks
16.67
and 16.76 km/l
Maybe in winter it could improve as there will be no aircon and will get more fuel in the tank
however happy with the little Kia
and motor sounds quiet and healthy

I am well Picanto Fernando (picanto  )

So your fuel consumption is now the same as mine

My Aygo is still going, still noisy when cold but I decided to just drive it until the engine packs up. After all they gave me an extended warranty , so the closer to 180,000km it packs up the better for me. Not planning on selling the car, will rather give it to one of the kids but I will drive it until Toyota replaces the engine. Won't let them get away with it.

The noise is much better now, you can now even hear it when it is idling when cold, not only under load anymore.

Sorry this is a little off topic but it does relate to the Picanto.
A friend of mine drives (used to drive) a Kia Picanto 2EX. Yesterday he was pushed off the road by a bus, his front wheel dropped into a ditch and he rolled 3 times, traveling a total distance of about 50m, not surprisingly solidly writing off the car in the process. His only injuries: whiplash and 2 small cuts. The airbags did, however, not deploy. This seems odd to me but there may be a reason for this? Either way, that car has my respect.

Airbags will only go off in certain conditions, like front impacts
good to hear it's reasonably safe

just a quick update

last tank got 18.8km/l
and the one before that
18.5km/l
on a different route then I used to travel
on the old work and back route the best was 17.8km/l

yes its not the Aygo on fuel consumption
however a more complete experience
can see why there are so many of them on the road
considerably more power then what the aygo had, and a lot easier on the uphills
took a while for the motor to loosen up, and now even feels nippy in on some take offs when needed

Peter, howz your Aygo going??

Amazing feedback on the Aygo.
Last year about this time I mos replaced one tyre on the Aygo because of a puncture.
I've put the other used tyre on spare and put the new tyre and the new spare on the car.

Thus I had 2x new and 2x used (with 38k Km ) tyres.

Well, the Aygo is now almost ready for its 75,000 service and two of the original tyres are still going strong.

I moved them to the back today so they can last even longer.

First time ever I saw tyres on a car last this long. Maybe it is because the car is so light.

After having waded through all five pages it is clear that Aygo is the way to go...

Thanks for the detailed report. My wife is in the market for the Aygo and we will park the Prado for holidays...

Do not buy the Aygo

And when last talking to someone from toyota believe it's been dropped from the range, no longer brought in
However the Peugeot 107 if memory serves me right, is the same car as is the citron C1

however have a look at the kia picanto, yes they have gone up in price since last year when I got my one
however good value for money
enjoy my picanto

I am very happy with my Aygo.
I get on average 17km/l, normally does between 120 and 130 when going to Cape Town.
When I am in a hurry and drive it hard at not to be quoted speeds, I never ever got below 15 km/l .

Consumption not as good as Toyota claims but still very good.

It is a nice solid car

I drove a i10 Avis car the other day. Also very nice. Bit more refined than the Aygo, have more gadgets like volume knobs on the steering, etc, but fuel economy not as good as the Aygo and I believe they are more expensive.
But take it for a test drive and see.

Some Aygos do have an issue with piston slap, but that is one out of many and Toyota do fix it under warranty. But that problem is the same with Citroen and Peugeot as well because they share the same engine. (more about this when I get my car back :shh: )

I love my little Aygo, I still cannot believe that a little 1000cc can have that much power.

Ja, everything with wheels has its problems. So rather the devil you know...

Aygo it is. You won't catch me dead in a Peugot or Kia or Hunday (like Sunday).

so they sorting out the piston slap? ?
Yes, they are. :celebrate:

They are currently looking to see if they can find a sub assembly.

Normal "engine growl" as experienced by the Toyota specialist turned out to be piston slap as suggested by the client. :cooldude: :laugh2: :boss:

The pistons shrinked ??? :mocking: and No 2 sleeve is worn. They cannot do anything else but replace a complete sub assembly.
You do not get oversize pistons for these engines, so the only way is a new block or sub.
Just to confirm that customer's concern is that this vehicle's engine sounds noisy when cold but that the noise disappears once normal operating temperature is reached.

Vehicle was left at your Dealership overnight.
We drove the vehicle on Thursday, 24 October 2013 for testing purposes.
Normal "engine growl" (normal on Aygo motor) was heard, especially under load conditions.
Engine does become quieter immediately after required oil pressure is attained and operating temperature is achieved.

I am 100% satisfied this vehicle's engine meets all Toyota requirements and that no defects are currently noted. My sincere thanks to Pieter for affording his Aygo for test purposes.
Kind regards,

I also had to drive a I10 the other day and not a bad car,but like Pieter said a bit heavy on fuel if you push it hard :silent: Also the centre piece pushes against my leg.Maybe I just sit funny.
Between the I10 and Aygo it is definitely the Aygo.It is actually a nice little car. Just a pity the BOSS is so stingy in letting me borrow it

I did not push them much. I decided that I will hopefully drive the car for very long. So the longer it takes before I get a new engine , the better for the future
It is now on 76,000km. I've been complaining about it since 15,000 km

So after a few years, think it's time to update
The Kia pica6is a grea6 little car, a lot depends on the dealer and the butchers/WORKSHOP that gets hold of it
The Kia Workshop made a mess of jobs, that were not even necessary, leading to years of frustration and swearing
To the point where I have made this video to tell my story, mainly workshop related
Once all sorted out at my cost, the car is again a pleasure to drive, the way it was when new
