Mikem Suspension and dual battery issues

Post by ROBERT »

Hi guys,

Just got back from an awesome trip.
we went through Botswana to Zambia, then back though Zimbabwe, arrived back late yesterday.

I had two issues on the trip, my 60k km mikem spring at the back of the bakkie are sagging like 250kkm springs, and the top blade of the spring pack on the drivers side snapped in what looks like a fatigue failure. has anyone one had similar experiences with the Mikem springs, or did I maybe just get a dud set (my OME shocks are about 20kkm older and are still 100%)

also I have the national luna battery box with the inbuilt split charging system, I tried to replicate the problem at home now but cant. the system has a five minute timer before the solenoid connects to the main battery. when I drive and even sometimes idling in camp to get the charge up, the timer will connect, the batteries will charge for 5 minutes, then disconnect and immediately start the connection timer again, so its five minutes disconnected, five minutes connected, five minutes disconnected and so on. I have a 105AH deltec in the box, and have an extra 350AH from the forum connected to it in parallel.

any inputs would be appreciated.

I have the National Luna Split charge system in my bakkie and had the same issue/non issue. The intelligent solenoid will disconnect if the battery is being over charged/ reaches a certain voltage. This is to protect your battery.

If this happens again, then switch on all lights, and try to put some load on the battery box to test the theory.

It might also be that the solenoid itself is faulty in that it was getting too hot?

On the D/Bat, check your Voltage Regulator that it still gives a good 13.8V. If it is lower the N/Luna will kick in and out.

Let Mikem check the blades, Darrell will help you on that.

Hi Louis, thanks, my input voltage stays put at 13.9volts. I tried to replicate it today but couldn't. heat could be the issue, ill maybe get national luna to check it out they are near my work.

Lollie and Louis, I am going to contact Darryl tomorrow, I was just interested in seeing if anyone else on the forum has had similar problems. thanks again

Hi Robert.
We have different load rating leaf spring set ups and your one is the comfort ride design if it has the part no 4H99.33.250 The leaf has broken in the most stressed part of the leaf which is 100mm to the left of the u-bolts as discussed with you. This will be due to the extra load a bit excessive and has caused this you have all the goods roof top tent etc etc on the vehicle so what we will do is add another blade as discussed earlier.
One must remember load = deflection simple as that. The only time a leaf spring will break is if it is over stressed. We will sort it out for you as discussed see you soon.

Regards
Darrell

Hi Darrell thanks, I will bring it in next week, my wifes car is just going to the panelbeater on monday morning to repair the bumper where someone drove into her, so I will probably only bring the bakkie after her car is back.
I really appreciate the prompt response on the issue. we did travel on a lot of corregations during our trip, but the spring only snapped once we were on good roads again.

So After a week in intensive care at Mikem, my luxie is back.

Thank you very much Darrell for the good service and ridiculously low price.
I don't know why anyone would fork out thousands for imported Aussie suspension with Darrell and his crew
doing awesome work and being very customer and service orientated.
and the lux now stands high and proud again.
