Advice please: KZTE clattering noise when starting

Hi guys.

Hope you learned chaps can offer some advice.
My trusty KZTE has 304 000km on the clock. On past few cold mornings when I start I hear a very loud clattering noise - this scares the bejabbers out of me . After a few seconds the noise goes away. Then when pulling away there is a small clatter but the noise disappears after she warms up. Once warm she starts like normal with no clattering noise. And she still goes like a well greased steam train once she is warm.

I am scared this is going to get worse and don't want to do damage to the old girl by continuing driving.

Try a better quality oil perhaps
