Lexus V8 word warm in sand?

Post by robvan87 »

Hi Almal.

Hilux 3.0 kzte radiator
2 x 10" fans in front of radiator
1 x 16" behind radiator.

Groete

From the sound of your cooling system setup you shouldn't have any problems. It would appear that working hard at low speed gave rise to the heating issue and normally this would indicate an airflow or radiator problem, even visco fan. Since you have more than adequate fans, the problem is more likely to be elsewhere if the fans are all working as they should. Is the cowl for the internal fan still in place?

I would replace the thermostat to eliminate it as a possibility and check that the radiator fins are not choked with debris, also check that the fins are not corroded away and flush the radiator. Another possibility is the water pump itself, not producing enough coolant flow. ;-)

Happy days... :dance1:

Daar is 'n paar goed.

Kyk ook of jy 'n laer thermoswitch kry.

'n windstorm.

Sterkte!

Personally I don't believe that bonnet vents will help much, consider the amount of airflow through the engine bay from the fans - a bonnet does not 'seal' and a fair amount of air already escapes there, but the whole bottom of the bay is open and the airflow through there is completely unrestricted. Even stationary, there can be no excessive heat build up in the bay.

I think Rob's problem is that there is no cowl - the internal fan is recirculating air and neither is the full surface of the radiator being utilised. I am confident that if he were to install a cowl his problem would be solved. ;-)

Bonnet scoops are useless, but a vent performs as per its name, it should vent heat at little or no speed. I added 2" spacers on the hinges to allow the heat to dissapate once parked, and made a huge difference. With all the bash plates etc the engine couldn't breathe properly, now that has been resolved, with heat being able to easily escape :D

But on your initial problem, adding a cowling will immensly improve the problem described

I'm with Andy on this one. A fan without a cowling will pull air from the easiest source, which will not be through the fins. We work with axial flow fans in our growing rooms, and I have found that even a hole in the cowling can cause air volume problems.

Air is like water, they will always find the path of least resistance, unfortunately a cooling coil (radiator) provides negative pressure, so the air will duck around it

Hello
Ek kan slegs my eie ervaring deel.

Net 'n update. So hy over fuel nie meer nie.
