Card Fraud - Please assist?
Hello all.
I need some advice please?
I am currently in Denmark. I noticed 2 days ago that 2 transactions were debited of my cheque account.
It was at CNA in Sandton. SWAMBO was at home at the time in Centurion.
One amount was for R6000-20 and 3 minutes later R345-00.
I immediately phoned SWAMBO, she confirmed that she has not been there. (She gets lost in her own bathroom)
I then phoned StandardBank to report and they stopped my cards etc.
Who is responsible to refund me the money?
CNA or Standard Bank?
It is a PIN card, so you would need a pin to have the transaction validated.
I am in Denmark, so it was definitely not me.
I have tracking reports from SWAMBO (as prove) to show she was nowhere near Sandton.
Anybody had similar experience? What was the outcome?
I personally believe that Standard Bank should refund me the money as I did everything in my power to keep my card safe, as did SWAMBO.
Your thoughts please?
Thanks

Have you logged a card fraud incident with Standard Bank? My card was cloned twice and the bank refunded my money.

Yes I have lodged an incident with the bank. My banker now just says I have to get the refund from CNA.
It was lodged yesterday, and apparently it will take up to 3 weeks to resolve, but her initial response is not good

Your bank can reverse the transaction within a certain time.
My wife once bought something from a dodgy website, and it deducted way more than the agreed amount.
She phoned the bank (Can't remember if it was Absa or FNB), they sent a form she had to fill in, and they reversed the transaction.
Same should apply at all banks and also for card fraud.

This was asked as well, but apparently because it went through on the card as a sale at a store, they can not reverse the action.
I have my card in hand, and SWAMBO has her card.
Now they have to fight between STD Bank and CNA on who is responsible...... HKGK

I'll blow a gasket, this is card fraud and must be sorted by the bank. Both Absa and FNB sorted my card fraud within weeks.Umpalumpa wrote:Hi Peet, peetvdw wrote:Have you logged a card fraud incident with Standard Bank? My card was cloned twice and the bank refunded my money.

Re: Card Fraud - Please assist?
My wifes card (standardbank, SB) was taken from a ABSA ATM without here knowing it. She did not even pulsed the pin in, the screen reminder her to insert the card! A man apparently left his cellphone on the atm and asked to retrieve it. Within 5 minutes that my wife realized that the card was missing R1000 was withdrawn from a standardbank atm, 3 min later a R2000 purchase was done at a nearby liqueur store.
SB said that if the transaction was "pin driven" that they cant do anything about it. SB has still not come back to us in the last 3 years to confirm what and how. This thread is a reminder, thanks, time to get my hands dirty to get some answers.

Ek lees nou die banking code of SA en volgens hulle, as ek alles in my vermoe gedoen het om my kaart en nommer veilg te hou is dit die bank se varantwoordelikheid om my te refund.
Hoe veilig wil hulle he moet ek wees?

'n Pel het 'n corner office by CNA. Hy se die bank moet jou refund, nie CNA nie.

Re: Card Fraud - Please assist?
Forum members, the banks are relooking at these transactions and if your PIN number is used you will be held responsible for the loss. It remains your responsibility to protect your PIN number agains Fraud. Because you are careless and allow people to get access to your PIN whilst getting their cellphone or card while you are busy with a transactions will become a thing of the past. When you open an account you are warned to protect your PIN and if that is not done it will not be the banks problem. The card swoppers use these scams to get your PIN num ber and then draw your hard earned cash.
Members, beware and protect your PIN at all costs...
The banks will still look objectively at the instances were your card has been cloned, but where your PIN has been compromised, BEWARE...
You have been warned, so spread the word as far and wide as possible...

Re: Card Fraud - Please assist?
Yup! Te vinnig party gehou en my bek gerek!!
So with my old card being reported, the two transactions were deleted from my account. Yeah!
That is the end of my wait then..... NOPE!!
They just transferred the two dubious transactions onto my new card and this will still take approx 4 weeks to be investigated.
Oh well. What can you do? Jump up and down and scream like a girl?
Nope. Just sit and wait for the transactions to be reversed.
My joy was almost too premature. :alvarin: :alvarin:
