Advice Needed: Which chip brand is best?

Post by Woesman »

Hi
All, i'm new to the Hilux 4x4 forum and hope to learn a lot from the more experienced Hilux drivers.
I'm not sure if this was asked before.
Have anyone chipped their 2.7i Hilux (1998-2002) model. Mine (double cab) is chipped by Turboman (by previous owner), but I'm wondering if I shouldn't go for SAC...??? Im also contemplating on doing a performance chip rather than 50/50 (performance/fuel consumption). Can anyone give me some advice? If you have chipped your 2.7i like this, do you have the before and after figures?

Welcome, I am not sure about chipping the 2.7, but I have a Dastek Q+ chip (SAC uses the Dastek chip) in my KZ-TE. Never looked back.

Go straight to Dastek

1. they are cheaper
2. the unichip is done in such a way that when you are conservative with your foot in town or where ever it is set for fuel consumption but put your foot doewn then it opens up every thing (they call it throttle wide open) had mine chipped there in December (4.0 V6) and what a difference in both departments, I have a savings of about 1 km/l and the throttle response is way better.

Having had a Unichip in my Hilux for more than 370 000km I am very happy - a rock solid reliable product.

Thanks Obelix - It is a question I've been meaning to ask, but never gotton around to - Most chips will definitely have a performance increase on Diesel, specifically a diesel with a turbo, but I have not seen stats for petrol vehicles without a turbo. You have had a 4.0 V6 chipped - Same as what I have - And you say there is definitely a difference? I am not so much after the performance, as the 4.0 V6 have plenty of power already, but is looking at anything that can safe on fuel (look at my fuelly stats in my signature)

If I may ask, what did it cost you and what did you have done? Chip and what else?

Oom Skoonmaker

Die chip was so R2000.00 by Dastek self.

Ek het al vier van my cats laat uitsny/breek. en soos jy weet het ek die snorkel op.

Nou die throtle response is baie better.

nou ivm consumption (and I am not typing this out loud) teen 140-150km/h op die GPS het ek 7.6 km/l gekry tussen Britstown en Kimberley se wereld.

As ek 100 ry, kry ek 8.3km/l.
