This past Dec holiday I bought some fishing gear in Pietermaritzburg and
went to Midmar dam to do some fishing.
Now, we(the wife and I) have never fished before.
The wife caught a smallmouth bass +-20cm.  sorry, I mean
(I would put a pic, but I lost my tablet )
We loved it so much just being by the water that, we are now looking for
spots to do some (attemted)bass fishing in the Cape Town area.
Any suggestions would be welcomed

Never post that your wife caught a bigger fish than you D The sport becomes addictive but fun.

It's hard to say that she caught the biggest one
AS she caught the only one
I must say that I enjoyed it very much being at the dam, even
contemplated getting a small boat to fish from.

IMHO rather do bank fishing for now and see how it works out. If the interest is still there after a couple of months then go for it.Just saying before you throw money away.

Thanks for the advice.
I did bank fishing and found it a bit difficult to move about as I
am lame in my left leg from the hip down. So moving up and down
the bank to cast into different spots is a bit labor inttensive.
Still enjoyed it though.
That's one of the reasons I am looking for a place to fish here in
Cape Town, from the from the shore, before I get a boat.

Re: Bass fishing spots in Western Cape
Kevin, if I could put all the time I spent fishing at Midmar, it would probably come to about 5 years in one shot. I was born in PMB and lived their until I left school. Moved back a few years later for about 10 years and then left again. Have not been there for a few years now as I dont have much family there anymore. Midmar was a great place as was Albert fall dam which was much better bass fishing than Midmar. What about the dam above the power station in Gordons Bay, that could be a good spot if a person is allowed to fish there.
