Waterpump,jockey pulley's, belts etc

Post by lize.w@iafrica.com »

I am new member and its so nice to read all. Yesterday finished work on 300 000km sevice on 1999 Hilux dc 4x4. 3RZ 2700i. Replaced plug wires, plugs, oil and all filters. Then stripped front of engine to insert new jockey pulley bearings and new waterpump, radiator cap and viscous. Drained and flushed cooling system as waterpump got replaced. New Toyota liquid as per 5 year period. Removed the spotlights for airflow.

Previously I did the front axle with new wheelbearings, brake pads and new oil in diffs. Also the gearboxes. All really that needs attention now would to do rear wheel bearings or carry spares. The aircon internal fan is making a noise at max speed and presume it needs new bearings and brushes.

I also do my Land Cruiser 4.2 D Station Wagon here and find it easy and simple.

Kind regards.
Gerrit Wessels.

Welcome Gerrit!

The 3RZ is a notoriously tough motor - 300,000 km is still fairly low for one that's been looked after and serviced regularly. You've done the main things now - the aircon pulley might be one of the next things to have a look at before you do your next long trip as well as the alternator bearings. The starter motor might also need a recon a little further down the line if it hasn't already been done.

Enjoy! :winkx:

Welkom Gerrit. I replaced starter bushes on 475,000km and I am very sorry I did not do it earlier. It cranks the engine much easier now. Since I bought the trokkie on 320k km it cranked a little bit slow. So if you are looking for things to do, that will be a good one, as well as alternator bearings while you are busy.

Groete. Gerrit.

Die goed is so lekkerrr.

When replacing the viscouis fan coupling/clutch on 3RZ it is best to take sample as the parts list quote only the smaller unit. On the 2700i 4x4 it is the larger unit. Also confirm radiator pressure cap. .9 bar or 1.1 bar. There also are different belt sizes and widths on front.
