Re: SFA Double Cab Sound system
Hi,
This is what I did on my (ex)SFA... quite a bit of steel cutting... and I had to create a mounting frame because the speaker magnet was a bit too deep.
Might not be the easiest solution, but it worked very well for me. Speakers grills tend to take a beating when installed in the doors, and having the tweeters closer to ear level is ideal.

There should be no water getting in there unless you have rust holes where the roof skin meets the gutter somewhere at the back. Another possibility is if you have an antenna mounted on the 'C'-pillar and the rubber seal washers are perished and cracked.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Re: SFA Double Cab Sound system
Surely a drip through the exterior vent on the C-pillar is also a possibility? Pulling off the shroud you can see the interior skin through the rectangular vent in the exterior skin.. If so I could merely flasband the vents closed:)

I've never had it coming in through there, at least not that I've ever noticed it.

Re: SFA Double Cab Sound system
Has anyone devised a clever system to prevent water from dripping down the inside of the door skins onto the speaker magnets/cones? Something along the lines of a piece of contoured flashband above the speaker to divert water...

Re: SFA Double Cab Sound system
A good idea I suppose but it seems you like your flash tape a little too much. That stuff is messy and doesn't hold it's form when it gets hot _ it gets pretty hot in the door space when the vehicle is in the sun, especially with darker coloured vehicles.
Personally I would be more inclined to make a shroud out of perspex or plastic, maybe even out of a 2lit soda bottle. I also think that whatever you make it should not be able to rattle with the vibes from the speakers and it should only be ½ moon so that it doesn't choke the sound (remember that the rear of the speaker also produces sound and the door space acts as a speaker box). I would also not make the shroud much wider than the depth of the speaker for the same reasons - the rear of the cone must be able to move air fairly freely. It's my understanding that the smaller or the more restricted the air space is behind the speaker, the tighter the bass becomes but choke it too tightly and you loose that bass. Too big or too free the air space the bass booms rather than punches clearly, so there is an ideal balance (speaker specs used to give a recommended air volume for the 'box').

Re: SFA Double Cab Sound system
Flashband for the win! Gonna tape up the lovely rust holes in my windscreen drainage channel very soon as well:/
My actual plan echoed yours entirely - will use thin aluminium roof sheeting to form a 'quarter sphere' and fix it in place with strips of tape above and well removed from the speaker, like a little speaker umbrella:)
