Rattle on front wheel
Hi Guys.
I've had to mothball my Lux
I've had it for about 3 months now. In the last 6 weeks, I've become aware of a vibration/grinding noise at high speed. It seems to be on the front right wheel. It only happens under very specific conditions, which are:
Traveling over 100km/p
about at 10-15 degree turn on the steering wheel
Only turning to the right. Turning to the left is perfect
This is what I have done so far:
Had it stripped down to the CV's which where found to be in perfect condition.
Replaced the prop shaft (which had bad UJ's)
Wheels have been balanced and aligned.
It seems to be becoming more and more pronounced. To the point where I wont drive it again, until this is solved.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Also, if anyone has had good experience with a workshop in the PE area, any referrals would be great.

Wheel bearings? Perhaps just jack the vehicle up and check the play also take time to look at all the steering joints etc. You may find the source of the problem.
With each replacement of parts, a car slowly becomes Chinese.

Re: Rattle on front wheel
Checked the wheel bearings... no problems there.
As an experiment, I replicated the issue... only this time in 4x4 mode. Seemed to be gone. Put it back in 4x2, and it was back again.

Strange that it should go away when 4X4 is engaged. Is the ADD engaging / disengaging properly?

After much time and effort... problem solved. Ended up being the universal on the front prop shaft. Thanks for the suggestions

Re: Rattle on front wheel
I am going to ask a real dumb question, isn't the front prop stationary when is 4x2?

Re: Rattle on front wheel
To my knowledge , It will still spin as it is still connected to the wheels , But not engaged in transfer box . I could be wrong.

Re: Rattle on front wheel
hi.
on the older 4x4 with manual locking hubs , with the hubs unlocked and in 4x2 the front props are stationary.
on the newer models, there are no manual hubs so the front props are always turning, the 4x4 system disengages by means of a clutch. so in 4x2 the front props rotate.

I think you meant "front side shafts".Lorry wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2018 12:55 pm hi.

The front prop turns, the side shafts not.
