EFI to Sptronics or Weber

My 91 2.2 4x4 was converted to EFI some time ago. It was fitted with one of these new cheaper engines. Although it performed well, the EFI conversion was a disaster. Managed only 5.36 km/L even driving at 115kph and always hick ups which caused it to be unreliable. Also blew head gaskets twice. Dare not to go on a bundu trip to Botswana or elsewhere.
I am now considering Spitronics or Weber and need some constructive advice from guys with knowledge and experience please.
Will it be worth the cost? Fuel consumption and reliability? If Weber, which one?
My vehicle was always very reliable when standard and reliability is a priority, especially nowadays one cannot get stuck next to the road....
Maybe going complete standard again with the old carb?
