Any experience with racing seats?

Post by Jaco Versfeld »

Hi There,

It seems to be a bit difficult to find normal Hilux Bucket seats. I saw another Hilux DC today driving past me, where the owner has installed racing seats (Evo??) ? Does anyone have experience with these type of seats? Are they comfortable, easy to install, etc.?

My guess is that they are anything but comfortable... ;)

They are available from the fancy sound and sports accessory shops.

For general recreational use I would not reccommend the Racing seats at all, as I found them difficult to get in and out off and also very hot when driving!!!

Most are made for racing and heavy g-forces, which is not that suited to normal driving or off roading!!!

I am looking at having my bench seat re-upholstered as 2 semi bucket seats, which I think would be ideal for off roading and long distance driving.....

I agree with Johan, this is not at all recommended, you will need serious lower back surgery after 4 weeks for compressed discs. and a kidney transplant and new fillings in your teeth.

What about that pipe that bites into you coccyx with every bump Johan, are you cutting it out or padding it?

I've done some long distance road races in racing seats. Don't use them for a Lux, unless you get the pukka off-road racing seats at about R5k a shot

From ATS in Roodepoort http://www.ats-motorsport.co.za/Default.asp.
The owners are Richard Leeke's and I think Robin Houghton.

Thanks a lot for the info - I assume I will have to practise a bit of patience and wait for a set seats - no quick way by using racing seats. I think my wife and I would dehydrate in the Kaokoveld with a set of them ;).

Thanks a lot
