On car shock testing
Where in Cape Town can you have the shocks tested on the vehicle.
Yesterday, I popped into Gordon Armstrong in CT or should I rather say where they were before - and they are no longer there.
So the finger is stuck somewhere. Any suggestions where I can go?
There is one more spot in Stellenbosch but that is really out of the way.

Re: On car shock testing
Recently I fitted schocks to my platkar at place in voortrekker road, next to pitstop. Cant remember the name. They had this drive on shock testing thingy which consisted of 4 rubber like mats, that vibrated and girrated , and gave a printout when it was all done.
Not too sure if this is what you after.

Re: On car shock testing
Supaquick and HiQ even TWT should also be able to do this test Niel. I know Speedy in Durban Road used to do it, but I dont know if they are still there. Ever since Teazers opened a few streets down they lost a lot of business...

Re: On car shock testing
Thys I think what Niel is after is what Shaakir is talking about.
Or at least if you want a proper test that is what you should be looking for.
Those little blue boxes that you stick on to the side of the fender and bounce the car, DO NOT WORK.
It is too dependant on human error in placement and bouncing ability
Rather find a proper testing facility. I know they are scarce but worth the drive to get a proper test done.

Scott I was referring to the proper thing, not the blue bounce box.

Re: On car shock testing
Niel... the best way to test shocks on a car is to whet your hands and feet (don't wear shoes) and then start touching different wires with one hand while holding one of the battery terminals with the other

Ag jammer man, just I have never seen the proper shock testers at normal tyre places. I think the equipment is a bit pricy for all of them to have.Kaspaas wrote:Scott I was referring to the proper thing, not the blue bounce box.

Re: On car shock testing
I personally don't trust these things, from what I have researched and from personal experience the only way to reliably test a shock is to take it of the car and test it in a propper shock tester. My father had a knock on his car every time he went over a speedbump, we had the shocks tested at two different tyre dealers and both showed that the shocks tested ok. We eventually replaced the shocks and the one front shock's shaft was broken - you could pull it right out of the shock - and their equpment did not pick this up.

Re: On car shock testing

Re: On car shock testing
Johan, ek sien geen tyre wear nie so ek probeer voorkomend wees deur die shocks te probeer toets voordat hulle die tyres beskadig die shocks het al so 50 000km gedoen

Re: On car shock testing
Niel... as jy net teerpad gery het is daai shocks nog goed vir 40 000km at least.

Re: On car shock testing

Re: On car shock testing

Re: On car shock testing
