Hilux4x4.co.za W-Cape Spring Trail - 12/09/09 Tierkloof

Post by ThysdJ »

As the Hilux4x4.co.za Club we haven't yet had an opportunity to arrange a formal Club event in the Western Cape yet. How about we do a nice trail early in September to celebrate the arrival of spring in our fair part of the world, as well as an inaugural Spring Trail outing.

We can do it on the weekends of 5 or 12 September 2009. My suggestion for a trail is already listed on the poll, but any other suggestions will be welcomed and added for other members to vote on.

Come let's make it a trail to remember!

Tierkloof, 12 September, sounds good
Will have to confirm closer to the time though, but a prelim YES from me.

What's the protocol for this type of thing? Kids? Wives? Food? etc..

It is a family day, so please bring your wife and kids if you feel like it, or bring a few mates if your wife does not feel like it.

Food, there usually are some guys who have a braai and a few frosties afterwards, but pack snacks/sandwiches etc to eat during the day. Also pack cooldrinks and water for the trail as I am not going to allow alcohol to be consumed while we are driving. There will be no debate about it. Drinks afterwards when we are all back at "base camp".

Lourens.

This route is so tame even a 4Y with a broken engine-mounting and shredded cooling fan can outperform a 6-pot on it.   O ja AND Niel's KZTE did it too. You're more than welcome, looking forward to having you along with us Soutie...

Seriously... I'm not sure if I'm in, I said yes when I thought Dadz wouldn't be fit for Service on the 29th Trail, nou it's looking otherwise.

Family 1st enol (and finances, petrol on the up again nê)

Tierkloof is a smashing Trail and one shouldn't worry about the weather; it was one of last year's Bridgestone Night Drive venues and a mate of mine told me that there was a flippin river running down the main Trail and still everyone completed it and they all had a jolly nice time. If I can squeeze it in I'll be chuffed as it was damned hot last time we went which ain't too lekker in an Aircon-less Lux :o:

A great venue guys a nice choice by Oom Thys as the 1st Official WC Club Trail

I am thinking with all the responses so far being in favour of 12 Sept as a date for this trail, we peg it as the official date. There is no reason why the family should be unhappy, they are welcome to join in as it is meant to be a family outing anyway.

The list of attendees are (provisionally, tentatively, subject to change) :

1. ) Coenie Rot
2. ) Hentey
3. ) Thys
4. ) Richard (if you can make up your mind)
5. ) Wacky
6. ) Noob
7. ) Rooikappie (if you bring your family)
8. ) Jan Smith
9. ) Martin Swifty
10.) Bretton Snipes (if you can get direction)
11.) Harold (if you are in the vicinity)
12.) Leon AC
13.) Leon Olckers Wolffie
14.) PietPetoors

The AAWDC Cape family fun day is happening on the same weekend as this trail. Read here: viewtopic.php?f=112&t=7955 . This is for paid up Hilux4x4.co.za Club members only.

If you are interested to do the Fun Day in stead of the Teirkloof Trail, please indicate so on the poll and we decide which event we will attend. I am open to either outing, although the Fun Day is going to be more competitive than the Tierkloof outing which is going to be a "leisurely drive " in comparison.
Each Club must enter 7 vehicles (before 31 Aug) and each club must marshal one obstacle (2 to 3 persons)

seeing that more than 10 vehicles is going I dont think u need recovery equipment.most of them ( I think ) are equipped.basically u need recovery points on your vehicle thats all..if u need recovery equipment first thing to get is a snatch strap.hi-lift jack.m2cw

Own recovery equipment is a required, otherwise you can buy mine and it is just good manners to bring your own stuff.  The bare essentials would be rated recovery points, kinetic/tow strap and maybe a hi-lift jack.
