At last, got my Hilux!!
Hallo Almal
After 3 years of searching, and a lot of reading (mostly on this site) I finally bought my Hilux. She is a 2005, 4.0 V6 (4x4) and goes (and sounds) like a charm. Now the fun (and expensive part) starts. The vehicle will be used as an every day runner (work and back), as well as our only family (Wife and 2 toddler daughters) expedition vehicle. I will modify her as the salary permits.
Obviously I have a lot of questions.
1. Is there anything I should look out for on this particular model? Or are they just as tuff as Flipp's bakkie that took on the Ratel in the Hilux advert in 2004?
2. The previous owner did something with the exhaust. The tail pype runs to the side of the bakkie, and it has a beautiful grunt. So my guess is that a free flow was fitted. Will this be a problem?
3. Where should I invest my money in first? I was thinking of a lift to get rid of the nose dive? Or should I rather start somewhere else?

Ek dink jou mods hang af van jou finansies :? , as jy genoeg geld het begin waar jy wil.

Re: At last, got my Hilux!!
Nice one Rian!
A suspension upgrade / lift is probably the single most important and beneficial modification. That's where I would start, and then get rid of the alu side steps i favour of rock-silders. The tupperware in the front to be replaced with an integrated bumper with recovery points and then the same with the rear bumper (or just have recovery points fitted if you're happy with the original). A LR tank is also a useful mod.
Best of luck and enjoy it. It's a very nice Lux.

Re: At last, got my Hilux!!
Geniet hom!! Hy het baie krag en 'n bul van 'n bakkie.

Congrats man!
Hope your Lux gives you many happy miles!
where to start on upgrades... everyone will have a different answer.
Maybe make a list of all the things you would like to do then sit down a rate them and then start with what you think is the most important!

Suspension Lift
New Tyres
Front Bumber
Snorkel
Roof Rack
Rock Sliders
Canopy
Rear Bumber with spare wheel carrier
Long Range Fuel Tank
But I was thinking of starting with a service. The question is, do I take it to Toyota, or do I take it to CRD or SAC? Are these guys reputable?

Re: At last, got my Hilux!!
Generally the dealers are the worst possible place to take your vehicle .... I would rather take it to the smaller guy that's going to give me better and more competitive service. Having said that, some dealers are actually "on the ball". Hopefully the guys in your area would be able to advise you better. Honeydew Toyota seem to be "on the same page" by all accounts.

Eerstens baie geluk met jou bakkie . Ek glo hy gaan jou baie gelukkig maak. Hy gaan jou nog meer gelukkiger maak na jou eerste trail wat jy gaan doen want dan kom jy agter hoe great a hilux eintlik is. Ek het myne in Desember gekry en eers in May my n trail gaan ry. Ons was by Crystal Springs daar naby Pilgrims Rest. My smile hardloop nou reg rondom my gesig oor my lux :D .
My voorstel sal wees dat jy die suspension eerste lig. Veral as jy wil bietjie trails met hom ry.

Re: At last, got my Hilux!!
Die runner boards het bietjie seer gekry - so lyk my dit gaan my eerste verandering wees. Het begin rondkyk vir suspension lift kids. So ver lyk Wild Africa se 1st Phase na 'n goeie opsie.
