Our other car's fuel consumption
Seeing that everybody is going these days on about green house gasses ect in the enviroment and most people are buying really small cars to save on fuel, we decided to give it a go in the daily runner, which is a 2003 Volvo S40 Automatic.
Yes this car is quick, and really drives well, having plenty of go when needing to overtake or quickly close a gap ect.
SO many people are boasting about their new fuel effiecient vehicle's... I will not trade this car for anything else unless its another Volvo.
We did 800 Km on one single tank of fuel (60L Capacity) with a range left of 80 km's to go to empty.
Here is the proof. 7.1L/100km Average on the tank of fuel.
Keep in mind that we did not always keep to the indicated limit and also did a fair amount of town driving with it, I really have to say, I am now even more impressed. It might not be the quickest off the drag strip, but i really delivers an awesome driving experience for a compact high performance sedan. Yes it does 0 - 100 in the 7 seconds and only stops at 240 Km/h (I have had it past the indicated 240 once in a emergency ) but cruising along is what it does best, and that with minimal effort and still beating many newer vehicle's at the pump, not to mention all the other factors it beats driving something like a Kia Picanto or similar vehicle.
Now that is why I love a underrated sports sedan like this. They really deliver so much more than the eye meets.
Like their slogan reads, Volvo ... For Life...

Volvos have always been a firm favourite of mine. Rock solid reputation and probably with the best safety record ever. That has been a Volvo trademark for years.

Eric once you drive them then there is no turning back.... Its the same kind of addiction like driving your Hilux....Needless to say I would really love to own the new XC60 T6. Really one of the best and most capable SUV's & Soft Roader on the road. It would make the ideal car for me....Family_Dog wrote:Volvos have always been a firm favourite of mine. Re: Our other car's fuel consumption
yes Volvos are nice cars, and have no doubt about that!!
then, on other car, yes its a small car, squeezed as much fuel as possible into the tank, put in just over 51L into a 45L tank and there was nothing leaking out the bottom!!
then drove it like a granny, some might say not fair, however that is how I drove it!!
did 800km GPS
that is 2km to highway!!
1 tollgate
going from the N17 to the N3 to the N12 and then another 5km of town to work!!
that gives 15.7km/l or 6.37L/100
Opel Corsa 1.3iE this is my day to day wheels!!
and from what I have learned could maybe even get a bit better!! only slightly!!
how about a bad fuel consumption as well to make things interesting as well:
my quad, and for that matter the wifes is similar!!
my quad is a 700 V-twin with two carbs, with a CVT transmission, so revs are always up and one is almost always on the power!!
wifes 750 V-twin 4x4 utility two carbs with CVT . . . . . as above!!
on normal cruising on hards sand roads between 7-8km/l yep!! that it!!
and on the soft sand at places like at Sodwana Bay and at ponta it comes right down to around 4.5km/l!!
wifes quad is even a little worst then my quad!!
however the fun factor is something else!! and worth every cent on fuel!!
and puts a smile on my face that is very difficult to remove!!

Thought I was the only one with low fuel consumption on my quad.kfxnando wrote:yes Volvos are nice cars, and have no doubt about that!!

I've got a Can-am Outlander 650 4x4 v-twin efi (also an utility), also only get 7 km/l, dealers set the thing up for performance, thus the heavy consumption..... doesn't really bother me, I use the thing 3 times every 2 months....

Re: Our other car's fuel consumption

Having a 12 second Honda is just like coming out of the closet; You're going to surprise a bunch of people, but in the end you're still gay.

Re: Our other car's fuel consumption
My platkar is a 2002 Mer C180, the one with a 2-litre engine without compressor. The figures are much the same. I averaged 8.1 l/100 driving at road speed limits from Durban to Klerksdorp in October, via the N3. A/C fully on all the way! Best consumption I got was 6.5 l/100km at 90km/hr a while ago.Lane wrote:2004 merc C180 compressor. best ever i got 6.7l / 100km but that was on the open road with cruise control on. average between 7 & 8l / 100km. sorry gents but im a hilux & merc fan.
And I am also a Merc & Hilux fan! Once you have driven a MB, it is not easy to exchange loyalties for another car!

Re: Our other car's fuel consumption
Yes volvo is a great car sold my s60 2.4 turbo last month err sorry gave it away, the only negative about volvo is resale and services in namibia because a lot of goverment vehicles is volvo, and therefore services is high.Anyway great performance for low fuel consumption and rock solid handling
