Battery instandhouding

Frikkie

Stef, you can leave the BX2 on permanently, the BX1 and 2 have a maintenance mode(kicks in when the indicator shows fully charged) where the charger allows the battery to discharge a bit and then trickle charges it back up to full repeatedly... I've got the BX1(tx F_D) and it works perfectly!

You connect the above mentioned charger and forget about it. It charge the battery and discharge it by itself, maintain the battery.

BESLIS, kry n Benton.

Haven't read the manual :blushing: but that's how i understood it as well...
I have to run a lead to the back garage where the bakkie is kept and our Labrador already attempted to chew on one lead  wish I could have seen that..idiot dog...
Anyway, can't really leave the extension lead out...

Hi Tiaan,

The latest generation of blikbreins are pretty resilient, I've had mine unplugged for weeks at time before. With the Benton BX1 you don't have to disconnect the battery, in fact they supply a lead with a quick release plug that can be dis/connected easily at any time, which is very convenient! To date I've had no issues!

Thanks
I'm sure my HAWKINS Smart 6 will work for this application. I've never used it while the battery is still connected to the vehicle though!

Must be 6 times as smart as a BX1!

Would it cause voltage problems if I extended the leads between the charger and the vehicle's battery by a couple of metres?

Yes, but if it's only a couple of meters, it will be insignificant, .... I would still rather extend the supply cable. ;-)

Invest in a Benton BX2 charger and U will never be sorry.

My bakkie doesn't fit in my garage, so I'm thinking of running the leads from the charger (safely inside garage) under the door to the vehicle parked outside.

That won't be a problem. All conductors have some amount of resistance and the longer / thinner the cable the bigger the voltage drop ... more of a problem with lower voltages, but like I said a couple of meters is insignificant on an application like a charger, even with 12v.
