Gabriel Safari HDP Shocks
Has anyone fitted Gabriel Safari HDP shocks and what is the general thought on it?
It seems to be a pretty decent shock?

Re: Gabriel Safari HDP Shocks
Have bought and fitted HDP to my Hilux SFA and had the oppotunity to do a trip this weekend, with a bit of rough stuff as well, to see how they performed. Must say I was very impressed.
The SFA has never given a silky smooth ride, but then it is a 4x4 not pretending to be anything else, and the HDP's gave me the the most comfotable ride I have ever had!

Re: Gabriel Safari HDP Shocks
Got four for R4880 but got a discount.
At first local Midas store told me that HDP were not available so I contacted Gabriel directly who were most helpful. They do not sell direct to the public but told me who Midas should contact.
Told Midas that as I had done their work for them they better adjust the price.
So with 4 new ATX tyres (about the same price as the shocks), so I'm "A for Away".

Just throwing it out there
what would a set of Bilsteins cost from Darryl?? IMHO I would rather spend a R1000 more for them, or even a set of OME's.

Re: Gabriel Safari HDP Shocks
Scott, you are right, these prices on this thread is a bit old, from 2012. And the Bilstein is a far superior shock but the Bilstein is R2337 each for the rear and R2451 each for the front on a Vigo HiluxDingo wrote:Just throwing it out there

The HDP is about R1300 each.

Just tell your toppie to take he's denture's out before he start to drive, that shocks is stiffer than a Telkom pole on honeymoon. Had them in my Hilux for 3 months, luckily I sold the Hilux.

Re: Gabriel Safari HDP Shocks
Jacques, obviously your Hilux is not a SFA model. Believe me the HDP shocks have softened the ride on my SFA.
As for the HDP been adjustable - not so!

On the Vigo with the coils in front it is, but SFA and on the KZ-TE it is not.Harold wrote:Jacques, obviously your Hilux is not a SFA model. Believe me the HDP shocks have softened the ride on my SFA.

Re: Gabriel Safari HDP Shocks
The rebound or dampening is not adjustable.
On the HDP struts the spring cup can be moved up to give you more lift, similar to the Bilstein struts. The HPD dampers are designed more for performance and therefore are set stiffer than your normal damper. Any performance damper will feel stiffer. This is to give better "feel".
Strut: when the spring sits over the damper.
Shock: when the spring a damper are separate.
