First problems encounter:
1) Oil filter seems to be catching against chassis
2) Looks like some alterations to the exhaust headers must be made.
3) Need to make new engine mounts.

johan z87 is spot on , you dont have to mod the manifolds they do fit just remove the covers , yes remove the old mounts and fab up new ones.
the motor does go in with front sump and auto box , the 4x4 lever moves 20mm backwards but nothing to worry about.
move handbrake cable pulley to the inside ( gives you more space )

Thanks guys, Jaco net een vraag - hoekom die hidroliese pomp uitskakel?

johan the pump just above the crank pulley was for the hydraulic fan that was fitted in the lexus , if you route the belt around it like standard it will seize up unless you mod the thing ( either machine a hub that will fit back with the pulley or even fit a cambelt tensioner bearing from a smaller toyota - 1300 and route the belt over that ) but bear in mind this is only if you have aircon.

Hi Mark, the guy I bought the motor from told me to connect a small oil cooler to that pump? Is it the right thing to do or do you suggest I take it out and shorten the belt as I'm not going to use the aircon.

Just one more question Mark: the adaptor for the transfercase, where can I get one, and will the standard propshafts work with it installed or do I have to make some mods.

Thank you for your reply.

johan if you dont have aircon then just run the belt from the top small idler pulley straight down to the crank pulley , there are 2 pumps that were fitted on the 1uz one when stripped of everything clears the belt , the other not and you will have to grind or machine a bit away to clear the belt. it should be a 6pk 1573

if you have the 4 speed we normally remove the rear housing from the gearbox and machine it , then weld a 20mm ally plate on and then machine again for the auto box , modify the spline coupling and fit a 4 pulse ring on for the speed sensor. the props move maybe 20 - 25mm but they can take it without modifying them.

Thanks Mark, what is the cost involved on the gearbox mod?

Re: Striker's hilux gets Lexus finaly

Posted: Wed Jan 02, 2013 2:21 pm
by mark watson
2500 all in , but you must supply the rear housing ( the one that mounts your 4x4 lever in. )
but with the work load we have 3 weeks minimum , havent even closed this year had christmas day and new years day off thats all.

Decided to go manual route, so now I need to source a flywheel and adaptor plate.

johan just bare in mind with the manual you will be revving at 3400 - 3600 rpm at 120kph , but with the auto you will be in the 2400 - 2600 rpm range , this is why the consumption is better with the auto , if you are going the 22r box way just a friendly heads up the first time you get enthusiastic with it the box will break , i see with the pics you have got mags and bigger tyres on , so if you want manual start looking for a kzte box

johan i was just as disappointed as you that the motor was full of water , but we will get it sorted between us , and more than welcome any time , i do have an open door policy , but heck this club has been keeping me busy as you know , but for info or making a plan i will try help out where i can .there are a hell of a good bunch on the forum ( chris mods , tim , kaskru etc , etc ) but that is what the forum is for is the info , and all i can say is keep it coming guys.
sorry did edit it looked like i was dissapointed with johan

the only problem with the sfa box it cannot handle the lexus , i have had too many come through the shop for replacing with the auto. the adaptor works well and nobody so far has managed to break one of mine and it is ally
and i can tell you the auto is so much of a pleasure to drive.
and revs lower at 120kph than the manual.

Mark I ment manual with adaptors did not ment your adaptors for the auto

no sweat jaques none taken , i do the adaptors for the bellhousings , but if done right they do work , it just comes down to measuring correctly , we have put some bmw gearboxes in the lathe that have had cut and welds done and the face runs out 8mm which is enough to rip the centre of the clutch out.
cut it off replace with another bellhousing and machined after welding and no more problem. as the wise men say measure a few times.

Theo, I bought the radiator from Springbok Used Motor Parts in Springs for R 1600.00. What is nice about this radiator, you can select where you want to put your hoses, left or right.

I'm getting between 7 and 8 km/l at the moment, but it still needs to go for dyno! With my 4Y I got more or less the same without the extra power!
