See my last post on that thread for my experience.

However, I have driven Pieter's truck December and I must say that even though his truck does not have an intercooler and chip in, it pulls almost aswell as mine with i/c&chip!

Donkey, when you come to do the anti-theft goodies, we can sort out your airbox.

PM me you email then I can send you some pics.

Dagsê kerels. My eerste amptelike post op Hilux 4x4.

Sal more 'n paar fotos neem en post.

:yahoo:

Battling with posting"pikchas". I removed the aircleaner housing, removed the little baffle plate where the air comes into the cleanerhousing and filed away the lip so the air can flow better. After this my pipe leading from turbo to intercooler popped of three times (due to higher flow and more pressure??) I then had to get a better hoseclamp... :mocking:

Do you have to install a snorkel to do this mod or is there a way to the mod without fitting a snorkel?

Is there any noticeable benefit to this mod? Seems easy enough but is it worth it?

I don't think a snorkel is needed..although I have one fitted. Surely it can do no harm to improve airflow? I clean my airfilter vey regularly in any case. will try to post a pic soon... :slap:

Eish guys,

This is the easiest mod to do!

Read on the previous post, just rip out that baffle!

Jip, rip out the baffle and file away that ridge inside the aircleaner where the inlet pipe joins the aircleaner housing...I also have a freeflow pipe and a snorkel and a cooler and a chip. :yahoo:

I did the air cleaner mod today and was worried about rain with the snorkel........ so I drove for about 40 km's in heavy rain to test it and on my arrival home the filter is dry :yahoo: :yahoo:

There is a remarkable difference when the baffle is removed - however, there is still a significant pipe reduction where the air intake goes into the mudguard. When this is removed (with the baffle mod) and by fitting the snorkel a big difference is noticed. (I am still amazed at why the Toyota engineers did such a poor job on the air inlet of the KZ?) The KZ requires approx 300 CFM at 3000 rpm. When you do the math on the inlet restriction in the mudguard this can not be achieved. We look at intercoolers, chips etc but neglect the most important and that is the air flow in and out of the engine. Improve this, which is cheap, and most of the performance/economy problems are solved!

Did the mod on Thursday, and it's easy, can't say much on any improvements yet, must still drive it on the open road.

Since the mod, truck seems more responsive and fuel consuption seems to be better, but will still monitor and confirm as time goes by, noticed a difference when we did Heidelburg this past weekend.
