Please note that with great regret I am going to cancel this years NGTG - Unfortunately the interest have dwindled and it is not going to work out.

A new plan and new date will be coming up shortly, though with the very few long weekends this year, it will most probably only be next year!

Hilux 4x4 Club National Get together!

This year we will attempt a National get together and where else than in the middle of the Country!

The Venue have been chosen for it's centralized location, beautiful surrounding as well as fun and challenging 4x4 trail and it it will be at Doringbos 4x4 and the date is 18-21 April 2014 - Easter Weekend!

Now I know that I for one is not fond of being on the roads over Easter - that is why this is just perfect as we will be off the road!!

Doringbos 4x4 previously know as Die Oewer is a lovely place on the R64 between Bloemfontein and Dealesville, next to the Krugersdrift Dam and it has the following facilities

40 Camping spots with power and water @ R75 pppn

Ablutions with Hot Showers

Guesthouse Accomodation for 20 people @ R285 pppn

4x4 Route of 22km (If you do it in both directions) and it will take a full day (R250 per Vehicle)

Route can be done in 3 sections

Doringbos is a Nature Reserve and there is scenic and game drive routes as well

2 Lapa/Boma Facilities

It is 10km from Florisbad, (World renowned Archaeological Area), where they also have camping spots and swimming pools

Doringbos have previously also hosted the Bridgestone Fundi Finals (2012) as well as the Captain Morgan's Mate Challenge!

Plenty of activities is planned for the weekend, to keep everyone entertained, but for now I need to get an indication on attendance in order to go ahead and book the Venue!

Surely the coastal regions don't only consist of 2 or 3 people!!!

Come on Gauten and surrounding!!!! We can do better than this... Lets show the kids down by the coast that we are not affraid to drive long distances in our Luxes...

The list looks good guys and girls... Would like to see more representation from the other regions though... Come on guys. I know it is a long trip to make but what the heck, Its a way of getting out of the house and meeting fellow members. Lets make the first NGTG a great success and pave the way for the future events like this.

Can somebody please supply me with a link to the website so I can read up about the place and also exactly where it is.... Distance from cape town to bloem +- 1000 plus km, from Jhb to bloem 452 km, so curious as to whether us Kaapenaars are doing double the distance for this central location????? Cape Town to Colesburg +-770 km, Joburg to Colesburg +- 631 km.... Are we getting the short end of the stick??????

Think Middleburg is in the middle.....

Any case, that aside, some questions have been asked - let me try and answer -

As far as I know there is not a limit to the amount of people per campsite, the price is per person. As long as everyone is comfortable and we don't overcrowd one stand, it should not be a problem. There is plenty of space and lots of trees to camp under.

I am slowly building a relationship with the proprietor and at this stage he has not asked for a deposit yet. He is happy with my idea of getting a feeling of the amount of attendance for a week or two (been about a week now since posted and I am very happy so far!!) and then we can iron out the finer details. More on this in a moment, which will also cover the amounts and deposits...

With regards to the amount of people and booking the whole place out to us - I have been in contact with Andre Botha, the owner and proprietor, since last year, and I have to now put in enough effort to build the relationship with him, that he has agreed to keep the place for our exclusive use for the weekend!

I have been working on this since it was discussed at the AGM.

Excellent and very good question! I have been thinking on this for a very long time and here is my reasoning behind the venue - apart from what I have already mentioned in the first post, that this is really an awesome venue with truly beautiful surroundings!

The event is a National-Get-Together, not a Johannesburg/Cape Town event. To make it more accessible Nationally, I had a look at what is centralized in South-Africa, not what is in the middle between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

I also did those measurements and calculations, but took it further -

From Musina it is 953km to Doringbos 4x4
From Cape Town 1039km to Doringbos 4x4
From Durban it is 670km to Doringbos 4x4
From Port Nolloth it is 1064km to Doringbos 4x4
From Kosi Bay it is 907km to Die Doringbos 4x4

According to one site on Google, the geographical center of South Africa is about 20km from a town called Petrusburg in the Freestate. Pertrusburg is about 50km from Doringbos 4x4!! Not bad I would say!

Thus in thinking about a centralized location, I have tried to make it geographically centralized and still look for an awesome venue that will cater for our needs and Doringbos 4x4 is perfect!

I hope that this explains the location better and the reasoning behind it. I also hope that this will entice the rest of the country and our further lying members to make use of the opportunity to attend this once in a year Event!! Come on guys and gals!! Join us!!

I will also at this event, take suggestions for the 2015 event, so let's not discount Middleburg or the Kgalagadi just yet!

Okay, that is it for the questions that was asked - Please do not hesitate to ask more if there are more questions!! I will gladly answer as soon as possible!

Now - Back to the deposit and costs - I have had the following idea i would like to put forward to make the trip easier on everyone!

A package idea! Looking at the costs and the time to the event I have thought of doing the following -

Lets say you are two people that will attend for 3 nights and do the trail, the cost for camping will be R75 pppn x 3(nights) x 2(people) + R250 for the trail = R700. Lets get 50% of your costs paid by the end of February and the balance by the end of March. Then that is out of the way and done. This will be the minimal, if you want to pay everything earlier, you can do so immediately or when you are ready, but to secure your booking, lets get at least 50% paid by the end of Feb.

Payments can be made into the Club Account as follow -

Val - The place is owned by a Free-Stater and they are not big on the interwebs thing

Do a search on Google on "Die Oewer 4x4" and you will come across a couple of sites mentioning it as well as some articles on it. They do not have much on the owners website either - http://www.just4x4adventures.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Truly still in the bush and rustic and not on the web!

The co-ordinates for Doringbos 4x4 are - 28°52'43.44"S 25°55'35.13"E

Hope that and Google Earth will give you a better idea of the location!

Update on the NGTG!

I will shortly supply more information on the Farmhouse and what sort of accommodation it is - I am waiting for the owner of the trail and facilities to get back to me, he is currently gallivanting in Botswana!

The organizing committee have also decided to do a Spitbraai on one of the evenings - I will supply more information on this shortly!

And then lastly - Payments -

I will also confirm with you how we will handle the payments soon!

When the deposits and final payment will be required, etc!

In the meantime, let's fill the list up and join us on this awesome Get-Together and 4x4 Trail!

Update on the NGTG!

Spitbraai

Okay, we have come to a decision on the Spitbraai -

One of the evenings we will do a spitbraai and the cost is currently R150 pp. I am confirming if there is a different price for children and will get back on that!

For this you will get -

Spitbraai, Hot vegetable/Potato dish, breads and coffee and tea.

Now here is the best news - The Club have decided to subsidize Club Members on the spitbraai! An amount (of R???? - Apologies, the amount have not been agreed upon yet and will be disclosed as soon as it have been decided on) will payed towards the Spitbraai and once we have the final numbers, what is left will be divided between the Club Members for final payment!

Great reason for you to join the Hilux4x4 Club if you have not yet done so!

I will now need to know who will be joining us for the Spitbraai!

I am busy finalizing this point with the Club Committee and will shortly post the details!
