You will see a black cable running out of the gearbox towards the engine bay.I would start there.Unscrew and see if the cable is broken.Cost around R100.00 to replace, only problem is stripping the dash to fit it in.

The genuine OEM cable is around R750 to replace, apparently the generic ones are not that successful. Changed the one on Hound Dog just last year.

When I was younger and working in England we use to drink a cheap cider called White Lighting. Did not have a lot of lube properties

Yes normally the first sign that cable is busy snapping
Might be the spigot but is cheaper to first change the cable

I replaced mine about a month ago. Got the cable from Toyoda dealer. About 80,000km earlier I had replaced the speedo worm gear in the gearbox. Yes Neil the speedo needle jumped around a bit and eventually when the gear was totally kaput the speedo stopped working. I had to replace the cable because the speedo cable seal at the dashboard cluster end must have been worn as gearbox oil was pumping up and out of the speed cable. Replaced the cable and no more oil dripping into footwell

Work steadily and it is manageable task to replace the speedo cable but not a lot of fun. I used the article found on the forum. viewtopic.php?f=34&t=11471" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which was a great help. Make a careful note of the exact route of the speedo cable. Take lots of pictures. I struggled a bit to find what the old route of the cable was in a few places (firewall) and inside the dash.

Have fun !

Yes it is not a quick job but easy enough. Make sure you refit the heat shield where the cable passes the exhaust system.

Oh yes the 4x4 cable is longer than the 4x2 don’t let the agents tell you otherwise, according to their system they are the same length.
