Appart from the paperwork, a traveler needs some "travel savvie" ....

Each border has its own "vibe", and every so often you will be put under pressure to give a bribe, without actually being blackmailed .... CAREFUL here !!

IF you pull attitude with a border official your vehicle can very well be stripped and searched ... And if we give in to freely then we feed the need for bribes ..... each traveler has to decide what they are comfortable with.

- when a border official at Sendelingsdrif Namibia tried to extract a bribe from me I played along to the point where hed made up his final sum, then asked if we could go back to the office as I would need a receipt for the money - never refused to pay. KNOWING he cant issue a receipt for bribe money he chased us off ...

- some poeple leave a half bottle of wine in clear sight. IF the official shows interest in it, offer it to them ... normally this means the end of the search.

and then SPEED - places like Maun Botswana is STRICT with speed control. In SA we are used to speed+10, not there !!

Good advice from Chris.
On the bribe side of things.Try and dont give.Be friendly and smile a lot.Try and act dumb.
I was pull over a lot for "speeding" in Moz.They stop you and show the speed camera with something like 90km/h and you know you only did 50km/h. What I did is to every time refer back to my GPS. I told them I was driving according to the GPS. I would take out my laptop to download the data from the unit to show them. Usually before my laptop is booted up they would show me to get going.
