I heard the disturbing news that there are plans to tar the road up Sani Pass so we planned a quick trip.
The plan to tar Sani Pass will in my opinion have a negative impack on tourism in the region.
Anyway, here are a few of photos of our trip.
We left Pretoria on Friday 18 July and reached Underberg at around 20:00. We booked a rondawel at Khotso Horse Trails and did the pass on Saterday 19 July.
There was no snow but the waterfall near the top was totally frozen. Traffic was quite heavy up the pass and the Highest Pub in Africa was doing good business.
All in all a good trip...

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Re: Sani Pass July 2014
When we went up there "Ice Corner" was iced up completely. Barely visible, we slid 90' towards valley's side. I nearly sh@t in my pants. My wife refused to complete the trip. I managed to squeeze around the corner and begged my wife to join me as I knew that I will never be allowed to take the trip again.... Drove the last few turns to pub only to be informed by a tour operator that the exact same thing happened to them earlier the day!
I have the pics and my Jockey I wore that day ....

Beautiful scenery and I am glad we did the trip. Will NEVER do it in winter again. The helpless feeling of sliding towards the cliff's side still haunts me today. Would love to do it in summer though.

- Ice, ice baby! Ice that we slipped on was still hard and almost like a crystal. The ice at the bottom of this pic started to melt therefore you can see the "wet" spot on the road. We did not see the ice when we slipped.
