Im considering buying a caravan. Looking at my licence card the other day, I see I have a B licence code, which means I may not tow a caravan. What to do?

Elso speaking under correction but believe you can ask to have it changed when you renew your license.

Met die oordrag van die lesensie in jou ID na die lesensie Kaart, het party 'n EB gekry en ander 'n B??
Is ek reg of verkeerd met die aanname?

Correct Cobus - it was complete luck as to which code you ended up with. In my case, my bike license just disappeared totally! :deadhorse:

According to the traffic department, everyone prior to 1999 that had a licence in their ID's were converted to EB licence.

not "luck".

You had to fill in the forms to show exactly what you have, and what your new card should show.

either form filled in wrong. OR admin error.

take that old ID with the old licences, go in and ask that the admin error be corrected ... apply for a new card and insist it reflect what is in your ID :subscribed:

Been fighting this since the card type licenses first came out...........traffic dept. passing the buck to dept. of home affairs and vica versa.

Even ended up in court last year for not having a valid bike license on my card and the magistrate was stumped. Case was thrown out........ :cooldude:

Went for my test yesterday, did the EB test and passed. Was very very easy! Starts off with pre-trip inspection, inside and outside. 40m straight reverse between 2 yellow lines. Lines are 3.5m apart. Then an alley docking, alley is 4m wide.

Then you do parallel parking with trailer unhitched. From the left and right. lastly the incline start and then the road test.

Now I have canned the idea of a Sherpa Tiny (which is a very nice little Van) and going to buy a proper caravan.

Total cost including learners, lessons and trailer hire with final payment to traffic department for my card, just under R2100......Took me 3 weeks from learners to the road test!

Congrats, I have an EC licence so I am lucky. One of our drivers on the farm has a C licence ( code 10) and was stopped awhile ago driving a bakkie and trailer( 2ton braked). Was fined as the C licence does not cover the bakkie and trailer.

Some traffic official in PE told me a C licence would be fine to tow a trailer above 750kg GVM. LUCKILY I investigated the statement and found it was false. The "E" must be infront of the code like EB, EC, EC1 that allows you to tow above 750kg GVM.

Firstly Congrats on the EASY PASS...
What you going to buy Thomas? Sprite Tourer SP/SW (I understand they are very popular, but the fridge/freezer is a bit small) or a proper 4X4 Caravan?
I am still interested in the Sherpa Tiny Rough Roader with the same wheels as my truck with a few mods...
