15 yr wait for that first kiss

i been fishing for 15 yrs, and the steenbras is one of those that has eluded me ... neigh .. haunting me for all those years...
about 12 undersized steenbras released in that time... finally i get one to take home to meet the parents
mmm, look at them lips...

Weight? A lekker fish to eat!
It's a sign of how we as humans have abused mother nature and our planet, where just 20 to 30 yrs ago we used to catch them regularly and a lot bigger than that. I have long since lost my zest for fishing.

it measured about 80cm , which according to some weight calculators puts it in the 8kg class...

That's about in line with my visual estimation of about 7kg. Still a nice catch!

Well i think you pulled the last one out there... was next to the Pavillion this morning... only 3 small sharks and hardly a bite... maybe I'm just too impatient... haha!

About 15 years ago i caught my first steenbras 15km south of Terracebay, namibia and it came in just under 15kG's(i think i was around 13 years old) my dad use to call them "treine" if the take your line it is locomotive style... We normally used lobster tail pieces to land these guys. We caught quite a few that day the only problem is the photos i have is all developed negatives, no handy digital stuff that days hey...

yep that blou triene does give you quite a run for you money...or tackle that is...
even this relatively small one gave me a good workout. That first run with the drag screaming... things dreams are made of.
The west coast / namibian steenbras is alot fatter /stouter than the SA cousin, which looks alot more torpedo shaped. But a trein is a trein... beautiful fish non the less.

at least think of all the "bollie" in parlie he missed while waiting for that kiss ....
he even missed that very crucial lesson - remember to shower after kissing your friends daughter !
wondering out loud ... would you have to shower after kissing just another fish in the sea ...
