Camps and/or Chalets / homes to visit.

There are a number of web sites out there such as "campsa".

Yet we know there is some difference between a "database" and a reliable reference ...

From personal experience we are comfortable recommending the following places:

- Bontebok SANS park. Short bad gravel road to get there. Close to Swellendam if you do anything. Cleaners always on duty.

- Addo SANS Park. Nice going on good. But the animal sightings are a lottery. In the rainy season the animals dont come out of the bushes .... But then you get lucky and see many many ellies on a single drive ...

- Mountain Zebra SANS Park. We LOVE this place !! Pity it is so far from the Cape ...

- Augrabies SANS Park. Should be on everybodies bucket list. Not enough power points in the camp site, take extra long leads with. Monkeys wreak havoc in the camp - lock up !! Ablutions were a bit mouldy last time we were there, showing a lack of general maintenance ... VERY nice night drives. Too far to be the destination, but certainly worth a two night stay as part of a longer trip. We have actually used it as the base with a four night stay, doing Riem-vasmaak, etc.

Onrus caravan park - nice park. Right at the sea - rocks. 5 minute walk to the sand beach.

Thoms Place - couple of kilometers outside of Bloemfontein, towards the Cape. Nice camping and very nice challets/homes. Perfect out of season. May get a tad busy in season ...

Through the years we used so many challets and homes on our trips .. sadly never recorded names and details for future use ... :naah:  silly me. Remember Thoms Place, Elephant guest house in St Lucia, and little house at the top of Van Reenens pass opposite the smallest church.

Would love to hear of places (challets/homes) that you can recommend. Either as a one night stop over, or a nice remote old farm house where one can stay over for a weekend ....

As you see from the parks I mentioned I am looking at a very wide area. Weekend trips obviously closer to the Western Cape for us, but also looking to build a data base for those longer trips.

Would love to hear of those special spots that are burnt into your memory.
