I have a CTec 250S dual in my bakkie as a dual battery system. I can connect a solar panel to the Ctec which is no problem. Can I connect 2 solar panels to the Ctek terminals - it has different power deliveries. The one is 75 Watt and the other is 100 Watt. I will appreciate your comments

Pieter I have connected two similar panels in parallel.

I have been told that it is not a good idea to connect dis-similar panels together, not in series nor in parallel ...

JIP, met soortgelyke panele in parallel werk die Ctek perfek.

I had two fold up 80W (40 + 40) and I broke one half on one of them about three years ago. Since then I have been running them in parallel (80 + 40) through a ctek with no problem. Ignorance is bliss.

Ek het ook twee son panele wat ek saam op koppel op my ctek. Die een is n 150w en die ander een n 80w. Altwee is dieselfde maak. Dit werk goed.

Thanks gents. So much for the old wifes tales of dis-similar panels ....

Parallel connection with two dissimilar panels should be no problem, but for series connection they should be identical, otherwise they will only work as well as the smallest one.

Hi, You can't join the alternator and solar panel onto the same terminal. The unit will not be able to handle it.

That sounds like the SMART PASS (3 terminals)and not the dual?

Nope, you do get the older one that was only a DC-DC Ctek 250s that had 3 terminals, you cannot connect a solar panel, the later version is the dual with 4 terminals where you can connect the alternator and a solar panel

IIRC - the maximum input votage is 23V - so you must connect in parrallel if they are big panels.

Max 20 amps of course.

In series is not possible with the ctek 250, as said the max volts is the limitation.

But otherwise if the amps are more or less the same one can use it in series, but the output is as said that of the lowest one. In parallel, if the volts are not the same the volts will settle somewhere in between and gives more or less the combined amps.

The Manual refers to a supply does that mean only a altenator or can the the supply be from solar as well.

Hi Frank,

jy het mos die een wat net 3 terminale het? Indien so kan jy net van die alternator af op koppel, die met 4 terminale het 'n ingeboude MTTP solar regulator.
