Hi, needing some advice..

My CV joint rubber's torn the other day and needs replacement. Leaked a bit of grease on the driveway. Been driving around since and didnt have time to get this fixed yet.

Question - should I assume that the 'Front ball joints' and 'Lower Ball joint" also need replacing? What are the chances they're still okay, what are the risks of not replacing?

You should not assume anything. Jack it up and check the upper and lower ball joints with a tyre lever for play. There should be none. You can also check the control arm bushes. If all are good then just replace the CV boot rubbers.

Rather check and make sure because maybe they are still good. Unless, if they are not too expensive, replace them because whoever fits the cv joint rubbers will have to loosen them anyway. Labour is very expensive and the more you can do at the same time the better.

Tip: Do not postpone too long, dust goes into the CV and if you use it like that for too long you can loose a CV joint which is far more expensive replacing only the rubber. And stay away from those cheap universal rubbers which are cut open on the side which you just glue on, designed for people who are too lazy to remove the sideshaft.

If you do replace ball joints, please replace with OEM parts. Its going to be more expensive but pirate part cannot be trusted especially with suspensions. Saw a photo of a Prado the other day where the lower ball joint fell out while driving due to cheap parts used.

That is a common Prado 90 problem (presume it is Prado 90), even happens with worn out OEM ball joints

Yes, it was indeed a 90 but the guy replaced ball joints 3 months prior to the incident with pirate parts.
