In 2012 I went with JohannesVanDieSee to meet some more Hilux friends at Road To Hell.
It is such a beautiful area and I also wanted to show Elmi the area.
So this long weekend we did not have anywhere to go, so we decided to head that way.
Since the Hilux is still in Hospital, we had to stretch the Touareg's legs a bit.
I made a plan to fit some loadbars on the roof for the spare wheel and jerry cans.
All the other gear is what I use in the Hilux which happend to fit nicely into the Touareg. Because we are only 2x I could fo9ld the seats down and use the whole area.
First night we spoilt ourselves in the Okiep Hotel. In my opinion it is a bit expensive for what you get, but then again it is clean, quiet, safe and the breakfast is awesome.
Friday we travelled all day long to reach Ramansdrif by late afternoon. It is not far, but we like plants and geology, so we stop very often to look at interesting things.
Saturday we made our way to Kamchab and camped there.
On Sunday we went to the beginning of the Road to Hell road, had coffee, took some pictures and headed back home to the West Coast.
Since we travelled alone I did not want to go down. We also did not have time, just by having coffee there we reached home at 22h30 that evening.
The Treg handled the couple of rough areas on my way to road to hell very well. The only problem it have is ground clearance, but I took it very slow, so we did not damage it. Its hill climbing abaility is awesome. The first gear ratio is so low that you can crawl up the rock at a speed so slow you can barely see you are moving.
Driving the tweespoor paadjies the Touareg reminded me of a Ratel with its deep rour, heavy body and the way it handles the bad road as if it is a tar road.
Below are some of the pics I took along the way.

Awesome!
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Re: RTH Re visit
I love the Touareg, just a wee bit concerned about reliability. It's a grand vehicle, nevertheless.
Lekker pics, Pieter!
