2013 D4d automatic trans oil change

Post by Beertjie90 »

Good day

I would like to change the oil in my wife's 2013 D4d 4x4 hilux AT.
After reading a couple of posts on the Forum regarding the oil change I did some investigation regarding the state of the ATF.
Conclusion is: Probably not necessary but cheaper than replacing/rebuilding gearbox.

My question is: has anybody done it before and if so, what is the recommended method in doing so?

I purchased 12L of Toyota AFT WS and would like to tackle it this coming weekend?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

It is good to change the oil. It will extend the life of the gearbox.

Best and easiest is to use a machine that pumps new oil in whilst sucking the old oil out. Failing that a good 'ol fill and dump will do the trick.

Drain the gearbox, fill to the correct level, go for 5-10km drive, dump oil and refill. repeat until oil comes out in the original colour or until you run out of oil.

Hi Beertjie.

I might be overly cautious but I thought I would mention.

The Toyota WS ATF is usually used in the A750 E and F 5 speed transmissions that are used on the V6 Hilux.

I stand to be corrected but I think the D4d uses the 4 speed A340F transmission and the fluid for that is type 4 ATF.

I do not know whether they are interchangeable but I would check before changing the fluid, especially considering much of existing fluid is going to be held in the TC which could result in the blending of the 2 fluids.

Cautious regards.

Paul.

Hallo Paul

Now i am doubtful of doing the oil change, where would i be able to find out the correct oil type to use? Or are you sure the A340f takes the type 4?

Thank you

Hi Beertjie.

Your owners Manual should tell you the type of oil. On mine is page 811, and my copy confirms the type 4 for the D4D. I suggest you consult yours as well to set your mind at ease

My Haynes Manual also confirms Toyota ATF Type T-IV.
