Vigo v6 fuel pump retainer ring

Hi All,
Does someone know if there are 2 different type of retainer rings for the fuel pump for a v6 vigo 2008?
Maybe I just received a dud.
I am replacing my fuel pump but the retainer ring does not fit properly in actual fact I cannot get it to grab the first turn.
