Gary, best will be to test it one evening at home. Keep the Garmin switched on and see how long it takes before the screen goes blank/switching off if any without "disturbing" your "prey"

we have the green e-trex Venture, me think, cant remember the exact model, its been that long that we have it, just know for sure that the covers are see through green, and we also have the Venture Cx, and both units will not switch off, dont think they have an Auto shut off, actually when those were our only GPS units and we would shuv them in the glove box to be out of site, and did not switch of, then they would stay on!!

just not sure if the unit in question here is the one with the yellow case, however dont believe that it is much different from the green one that we have and dont believe that the functions will be much different either!!
