Methane
I was wacthing an episode of Top Gear (those guys are funny) over the weekend, and they took a car that was converted to gas, and filled up one with methane from cow dung, the other from human dung, and another running on petrol , all the same car, in a quater mile drag.
Petrol first, cow poo second, human poo last :D
SO now that I gots the gas kit fitted, where can I fill it up with methane. Since methane is a byproduct of fertilizer creation from all kinds of animal poop, it should be relatively cheap? It has alot let power than LPG, but if it can get me there for say half the price, well, I'm not in a hurry

Re: Methane
Being into this gas thing I read the Methane posts with interest.
First you feed your passengers with a two bean salad. They strap on a harness "in the privacy of their own homes",as the ads say, and hook up to your gas system. Your progress would probably be erratic depending on the rate of production, and you would need a good filter system in case one of your pax got over enthusiastic.

Re: Methane
Thanks for all the words of encouragement guys
Doing more research on methane, and it seems the $hit is not THE $hit.
It has alot of promise. Has alot of underground resources (and in space for space travel), unlike LPG does not come from oil, and can be made by your own household sewerage.
Speaking to compnay called Agama, who installed home methane digesters on farms for cooking and heating purposes, but not as fuel - I volenteered my lux for test projects which is in the pipeline.
Prob with methane is the density of the gas. Compressed in my current 90liter tank, I could prob get about 18liters of compresses methane since methane liquifies at 3000psi, and LPG only +- 160psi. Thus I would have to have 4 tanks at the back of my lux to accomodate all that gas. In EU, there are busses running on methane, with 7-9 tanks on the roof, and only getting about 300 - 400km out of it.
I think methane will be the way of the future, but only if car manufactures in South africa produce Compressed Natural Gas cars, and filling stations have the availabilty to fillup with CNG. But no-one wants to take the lead - chicken or egg scenario.
If only government will get off their fats a$$es and start implementing a couple of stations, and use all their crap their keeping feeding us to power this nation. Forget about building another nuclear bomb for electricity. Use that money to build a network of gas pipes to filling stations and homes. It's being done in EU already. Why do we have to wait 100 yrs to learn from 1st world on how to better ourselves.

well there goes my plans for a poop powered lux.
seems the pressure needed to store methane is too much for the LPG kit.

Shaakir,
was just having a discussion with my par in the UK and he was telling me that the Diary and Beef herd farmer's are under major pressure from the environmentalists, as cows wind is PURE METHANE and thus is having a detrimental effect to the environment.
Have you considered getting a couple of old heffers and rigging them up to a Heath Robinson Gas Collector
Figure your Mar's old Electrolux, a few PnP bags and a one-way valve thingy should do the trick - but hey, ask Ron (Irishman) his creation on Enola Gay takes the biscuit in my books :D

Re: Methane
how about methanol then.
it is selling at about R4.50 per liter.
this is what the racing okes were using?? I read they moved over to ethanol, because ethanol has more energy.
Yes I will be making my own wit blits. Imagine that, my lux is already all over the road. Imagine if it is powered by wit blits. I be locked up for sure

Re: Methane
I have spoken to a guy running it in his stock car (oval track racers) some time ago, cant remember all the ins and outs but what I can remember is that he mentioned that you need bigger jets in a carb or a different map if you are running it in a fuel injection system. Also there are water in the mixture so you need to do rust proof your tank and fuel system and you need to switch over to normal petrol again before stopping the engine to let the water burn out. So I am not sure if it is really a good option on a daily runner.
What he did mention at the time was that it was cheaper than petrol and that if he ordered 200 (or maybe 300 :?_ litres at a time they delivered it to his shop free of charge in 50L containers.
