Difficult choice between 2,7 or 3.0 KZTE PLEASE HELP

Post by bullit »

Hi All

I'm a noob to the forum and am looking for some advice. I am looking to purchase either a 2,7 or 3.0 KZTE 4x4 the IFS shape preferably.

I know all the issues with fuel consumption between the two vehicles as I've read most articles on the forum pertaining the fuel consumption, I'm looking for information on the vehicles themselves. with the vehicles probably having +- 200 00km on the clock which is the beter vehicle to choose from with regards to engine life and wear and tear.

How are the power outputs on the vehicles, I'm wanting to do some off roading but also overland trips, I want the engine that can handle both best.

How do I go about testing the 4x4 on the vehicle to make sure all parts are in order and working, at the moment I have a lux 2x4 and have never purchased a 4x4. so I'm clueless on the workings of a 4x4 vehicle and what to look out for.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Hi Ryan
I have had both. The 2.7 is your more robust engine.Oretty bullet proof. I sold mine and got the KZ. I just love the KZ2 Things on the KZ is the head and injector pump.My head was already replaced so when the injector pump started giving hassles I opted to replace it with a mechanical pump.No more electronics.Driving a KZ you have to have a EGT fitted. When you drive with a EGT you quickly realise why the heads give in.
With the 2.7 you get in drive any which way you like and no problems. With the KZ you always have your eye on the heat and egt gauge.
But saying all that I still like the KZ more

I was in the market for a kzte but could not find a decent one, so after all the inquiries made, I bought a vigo V6 4x4 2006 model and the fuel consumption is the same as what my ifs 4x2 was.

Hope this confuses you just more!!

Good luck in finding a low kilo KZTE, they are right next to the chickens teeth!!

Once a diesel has been opened I would not trust it, also if i did not trust i.e know the previous owner well on a high mileage diesel I would stay away, once bitten etc etc you know the story!!

Difference between 2.7 and KZ on fuel consumption is only about 1.5 to 2km/l

2.7's engine is more robust. A bit lazy on uphills, otherwise fine

All depend on you personal prefrence.

Get a copy of July or August's Wegry or Drive Out me thinks - nice article about the IFS.

Most important, take your time to search for the right car for you. Do not get in a hurry to buy just to have it. I'd rather buy privately and have it checked out by a good mechanical minded person before you seal the deal.

For a few hundred buck you can take it to Dastek or SAC to have an evaluation done where they run it on the Dyno, check compression and boost levels before commiting to a car.

Caveat emptor!

If you are a diesel fan, raise your hand.
If you aren't raising your hand, raise your standards!

A 4x4 is merely a machine that enables you to get stuck further away from civilization.

Hi. I have a 2.7 4x4. I prefer petrol over diesel however I have driven a kz around for a while. Besides sounding a bit agricultural the kz is a fantastic vehicle, sufficient pulling power, little bit lower on fuel burn etc. I dont think you can go wrong with either provided you get a well maintained truck. It may take some time to find that one that has your name writen on it.

Ryan

I like diesel more than petrol, all the 4x4's I had was diesel including the IFS - KZTE. But like the guys mentioned, the 2700i is much more reliable than the KZ motor, I sold my KZ and the guy who bought it had to replace the head about 2 months after.

What I am getting at is if I was in the market right now for 2700 or KZTE, then I will go 2700i. The sad reality is that the IFS was discontinued in 2004, so they are getting a bit older with high mileage. So its a bigger risk buying KZ.

Hope you find what you are looking for

+ real men drive Petrol....

I can concur drove my KZTE for 8 years, there is just so much that can go wrong on a diesel, but if you have to drive a diesel, buy a new one and keep it in maintenance plan, as soon as it is out of maintenance, sell and buy new.
