Hi Guys
The backlash on the rear diff is getting way too much. No lateral play on the pinion itself, but plenty when turning it anti/clock wise.
Gearmax in Pta wants to replace spider gears and side shaft gears without even looking at it (R5k - R7k)...I'm thinking it can be sorted by shimming it.
Any thoughts?

Hmmmm ....If it is indeed the spiders, shimming can work but I think it will be a temporary solution. Shim stock is usually soft and I think the spiders will wear through it in no time. If you can get a harder shim stock like stainless, that should work.
If it's the crown and pinion you can set it up with the pre-load.

Personally I think it's more likely that the backlash is coming from the crown and pinion.

Usually backlash is from the pinion and crown wheel.
Shimming way to go but quite time consuming.
