Went to Maputo Elephant Reserve in February this year. What a special place.
We had seen an article in a getaway and thought to try it out.
There is a lot of sand driving over the dunes and in the wet season it can be quite tricky, as there are lots of lakes and very marshy areas.
We stayed at Ponta Milibangala (GPS Co. S26° 26.057' E032° 55.029'), a very rustic camp site right on the beach. There are no showers or running water, there is however a well where one can get water for washing up, but it is too salty to drink. There are two pit toiletes, but these are rather dirty. There are ample camp sites which are all very big and can easily accommodate 3 vehicles.
The price for camping is R35-00 per person per night and an entrance fee of R70 per person into the reserve.
There is some wildlife on the reserve (don't expect too much) but we did see 2 herds of Elephants, Hippo & Croc in the lakes and a variety of antelope and birds.
The snorkling and fishing off the point in front of the camp was very good as well.
We took a drive up to Santa Maria (point very close to Inhaca Island) (takes close to 2 hours to get there) and had some good fishing experiences there as well. At Santa Maria there are quite a few self-catering options for the not so adventures.
We love Mozambique and wish more people would post some special places that they have found.

Cheers
