Licence fees

Post by Wayne »

I would be interested to know what members in various parts of the country pay for their annual vehicle licence renewal.
I have a 2002 Hilux D/C 2700i 4x4 and I have just recieved notification of my renewal at R615.00.

That's robbery! Must be something wrong with their calculations! I think they take the engine capacity into account as well but that only makes up a small difference the cost.

License fees in the W/C are determined by the Dept of Transport: Provncial Govt of the Western Cape. And every province determines their own license fees. They also want to add an additional fuel levy for the Western Cape "to pay for fixing the roads". As a matter of fact it is approved by Central Govt already, just not implemented yet. But yes, we are blessed with almost no toll roads in and around CT, but our roads are also pretty stoofed, although not as bad as some I saw from up country....

Mine is also 1420kg on the registration form, but I think it's the GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) that determines the category. At 2480kg the Hilux is classed as a light load vehicle (3500kg or less).

Tare refers to the load carrying capacity of the vehicle.

It would seem that each municipal area has their own set of rates.

ok went and found the exact numbers!!

R363

tare 1744kg

no other details!!

so not too bad!!

the only other things is this

Vehicle category light load vehicle (GVM 3500kg or less)

witch brings me to another question and might even explain why some vehicles are higher then others!!

on the plate/tag inside the bonnet, thing the GVM 4178, cant remember the exact number, just remember that its just short of 4200kg

could it be that some vehicles have a similar GVM and hence why they pay more???
