Headlight upgrade! (Comparison between OEM, NightBr and HID)
After reading all the good and bad suggestions/comments on various forums about OEM bulbs, Osram Nightbreakers and HID, I decided to go for it and try all of the above for myself.
I bought the 55W Osram Nightbreaker Plus bulbs and the 35W 5000K HID upgrade kit.
Myself and Oooms then played around until 23h30 last night to test them with his light meter. We tested the light output of all three options on 1m and on 8.2m.
This is what we found:
OEM bulbs:
1m - 10542 lumens 8.2m - 301 lumens
Osram Nightbreakers:
1m - 19350 lumens 8.2m - 392 lumens
HID kit:
1m - 25100 lumens 8.2m - 612 lumens
I must still take it to toyota to adjust the beams but so far I am impressed with the HID conversion!!!

Dit was nogals 'n nice 'toets' comparison tussen die verskillende lampe. Moet by se ek was baie impressed met die HID in die Vigo se hoof ligte. Hy gooi 'n baie horisontale kyn soos gesien kan word oppi pics

Alec, this looks excellent. Been playing with the idea for a while and I think you just help make up my mind.
Couple of questions:
The best I could find on the net was http://www.hidlights.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and then the electroman link above. Where did you find yours?
Looking at the pics I assume it works well within the standard fitting? I have read on a couple of places xenon is prone to issues in fittings not designed for it.
Is it really as easy as they say to install the HID kit? I can replace a bulb and I reasonably good with the DIY type stuff but very nervous when it comes to my truck’s electronics.
Cheers
Stephan

Very nice Mark and Alec. I must say i am a huge fan of HID's. I have been putting them in all my cars for the last 18 months. The real secret with HID's is not to exceed the 6000K rating because then you loose so much lux. More than 6000K looks cool and brighter, but in actual fact isnt.

Bought mine from electromann, but I negotiated a group buy price for us.
If we take 10/more kits they will give it to us for R899.
I will post in the group buy thread...
