Suspension work

Post by Ryperd »

I got a quote today from Syd's Suspension Parts in Pretoria West to do some necessary work on Ryperd:

* Re-tension all 4 leaf springs and add an extra blade to each: R5000
* Replace outer tie-rod ends: R2280

Are those prices reasonable? Anyone had work done there before, or would you recommend somewhere else in the Pretoria/Jhb area?

I would avoid 're-tensioning' at all costs ... you will live to regret it sooner than later. Cold press re-shaping is far better and you can do it yourself if you have access to a hydraulic press. Alternatively you can re-shape by beating with a large hammer, but let me warn you, it lakes a lot of effort and is not quite as effective as pressing.

I would otherwise tend to agree with the comments above, go and see Daryl at Mikem Suspensions. ;-)

For Retensioning is too much, if you spend R3000 more you might aswell get Ome blades and bushes. Then the tie rods you can buy for about R900 and fit yourself, not difficult and just do alignment afterwards.

I ended up getting the suspension done at Mikem and I'm very glad we did. Ryperd now has a much more comfortable ride. We haven't done much serious offroad since then, bur performance has been good off the beaten track.
