Today I volunteered myself (well, the doc said I must do so) for a prostrate examination. This is probably advisable once a year or so after reaching a certain age (hello Mr. Hoppy ) so reluctantly and with a lot of trepidation I dragged myself over to the Urologist. After exchanging a few pleasantries, it was time for action and I dropped my rods and lay over on my left side, all tense. :angry2:
"Relax"... advised the good Doctor.
Yeah, right! With his giant finger poised at me and my tiny orifice trembling, he inserted "the finger" and began the examination.
It was at that exact moment my cell phone went ballistic, ringing at about the same sound level as Thys' Jeep's exhaust. Broke the ice somewhat when I mentioned to him: "You called?"
True story with a happy ending (no pun intended), I was clean and no signs of prostrate problems.
Was weird looking at my insides on a couple of computer monitors though... as if I even knew what I was looking at.
All seriousness guys, it takes but a few minutes and can save your life.

Re: Those special moments in life...
My dad has colon cancer and has to do this every 6months
Not pleasant according to him, but ja, as he says
"If I did it sooner it would have been better"
As he has it I have to look at it as well.
I'm 34 now and am going to have it done next year
Great advice uncle Eric

Kevin, just remember to switch your cell phone off before the great entry... ;)
Actually, unpleasant as it is, it's only a few seconds and leads to peace of mind. What made me determined to go is the fact that my younger brother, now in new Zealand, has just had his prostrate removed but unfortunately the cancer had already spread and he went for his first treatment of chemo today.

Strongs to your brother and your family uncle Eric
All the best to you as well.
Not a good feeling knowing your loved ones are in that position.
I lost 3 grandparents and a auntie due to cancer.

Eric last month they installed smoke detection system at out office complex.
The secretary and I are standing at the lift when she asks me how this small red box works ... so I begin to explain the functioning of the "break glass unit" ....
she opens the lid and as TOUCHES the glass her cell starts ringing ..... seker haar melk is nog steeds suur geskrik !

Re: Those special moments in life...
PSA tests are important, but they're not all that reliable, it seems. I do go as well and skrikked somewhat when the Urologist's receptionist phoned a few days after the test and told me the Doc wanted to see me. I picked her out today, telling her the conversation *should* start with: "Eric, your tests have turned out fine and Doctor is very happy with them. However, he would like you to make an appointment for an annual check-up."
Dying of a heart attack is also something I really don't need.

Re: Those special moments in life...
Eric would you mind typing up that advise .... I may want to hand it to my doctor's ladies.
Each year they phone, and obviously they phone while I am in a meeting, so leave a message at our receptionist .... every so often it slips through: "Your test results are out. Dr needs to speak to you."

Sort of takes me back to my school days... "Report to the principal". Turns your legs into jelly - those days 'six of the best' were the theme of the day and putting a book in your pants was not to be advised.
