"Road to Hell" in Namakwaland

Post by Knersus »

Ek sal BAIE graag daai pad wil gaan ry Eben. Ons in die eerste 2 weke van April in Namibie, so as jy dit in die rondom 23 tot 26 April wil doen is ek in. 8)

Anders gaan ek dit in Sept doen as ek my gewone jaarlike warrelwind langnaweek doen. Gewoonlik die 24ste se langnaweek. :?

I did the road to hell at the beginning of January this year. It was very hard, we had to carry a lot of rocks. I had to use my winch twice. When you get to the bottom the camp site is not great unless you head right (east) on a rough road, track for about 400 m and you come to a place close to the river with grass and all. Not easy to turn around but it can be done. The problem with the main pass is once you start down you cannot turn around till the bottom. Made me a bit nervous to be honest. Only damage I did was I lost a mud flap.

Hi Martin,

We are looking at doing the Pella and Namakwa trail on route to SWA. We are 4 vehicles with trailers.....so this pass is out for us.

Have you done the entire route, or only the pass? I'd like to pick your brains about about the whole route if I may.

Let me know, and I'll start another thread.

We did only parts of the eco trail but one of the people with us I believe knows the trail. I will ask him. I agree that the pass is out with trailers. I anyway would not try it. Perhaps you could leave the trailers at the top with someone who did not want to do the pass. I think anyway a thread about the eco trail would be good as I would love to go back when I had more time and in winter to do the whole thing and take a lot more photos.

Wade I think I will be able to help you with info regarding Pella- Vioolsdrift. When are you planning to go and what info do you need. The Pella/ Vioolsdrif road is not a very difficult road but is is nice and it will be trailer friendly. However the Road to hell is another ball game for any vehcile.

Let me know and I will give you all info that I have

Thanks guys.....

I need to have a meeting with the other vehicles, and then I'll post a new thread to cover the pre-trip, trip and pics.......

Basically the info will be around driving times, camping spots, sections to "must - do", and sections to by - pass. I have the "route" on T4A, so can reference to points ----- if you have the same?

Shot......
