It was commented by some of the people on the track that they have never seen a Club like ours. "Hoe kry julle ouens dit reg?"

Re: GTG 29 Jan 2012 Gauteng
Pleasure.
It is an interesting trail. What I particularly liked was that there were in all cases escape routes. And not all escape routes where easy and straightforward.........
The first part of the trail was not challenging, it had me duck for the escape once just because it had a sharp little crest which was certainly going to cause a hang-up. There we got held up seriously by the "Wildboys" who where ripping up the trail with their majorly dented, rolled and scratched machines.
Then we headed for a brand new part of the trail which was only difficult in one spot cause they probably measured the trail for Alien, cause the Hilux squeezed through; but barely.
The next part was into the rocks. We had 2 vehicles ducking on that part, and they caught with us after driving the koppie. The koppie offered a great view of the area, and also offered plenty opportunity to dent, scratch or scrape your vehicle if you did not pay attention. I bent a rock slider on the way down the koppie (again).
The next koppie only 2 vehicles tried as it was told to be more challenging. After everybody got through that, we did some gardening in clearing the trees for the next obstacle and again I rather drove around cause the narrower SFA's where all bruising the trees, and I was not keen on denting Dreadnought.
Next was some mud, some steep downhills followed by a lekker uphill which all managed without problems.
And then we headed for the "Rockface".....................
I was behind our guide, so inevitably before I could be told what lay ahead, I was there, and ducking was not an option anymore. So firstly our guide Steven headed up the rockface with his lifted, and huge tyre shod V6. He had to try twice or 3 times, but he scrambled up, and over. Next was me, and the sound of a exploding differential still fresh in my mind (and of course my Clubmates where not shy to remind me to not explode another diff -Thanks guys ) I headed to Dreadnought. Saying my heart was heading out my body (up or down) was an understatement.......... But before I could start up this slippery shale rockface, I first had to extricate Dreadnought from the mud we had parked in.........
Ok, after heading back and forward a couple of times (10-15 times), I decided that momentum was the only way of getting my oilburner up and over the first steps. And with Elgar sitting in the back watching Kim Possible on the iPad I stormed "The Rockface" basically with my eyes closed. I think I only looked again when I felt Dreadnought standing level again.
For the next 30-40 minutes we watched the rest of our group declining, inclining, turning, spinning, and revving up or past "The Rockface". Marius showed us how to turn a Defender 180Deg in 3m, I promise you I'll never see anything like that in my life again.
And so our day came to an end.
JohanM and I walked and then watched Cassie and Legend35's group in the last section of the trail. Of course with the involved entertainment.
Afterwards we had a good kuier, and I had a look at the Impressive Alient "Mini"-Fortuner. Excellent.
Thanks everyone, it is an honour to be part of Hilux4x4, irrespective of what you wheel with.

Val, it was not too muddy, but the mud present bordered on glue.
Know what you don't know.

GTG 29 Jan 2012 Gauteng
Jip, was a lot of fun. Started off with an easy uphill and getting to know everyone, seeing their mods. Begging Legend35 to still build me some nice rocksliders that was on Tjokkies old ride! Then it was off to the YouTurn, where a tree provided some alternative modifications to some of our member's rides... This scared me off slightly and couldn't get up the hill, so eventually took the escape route. Then we headed to the play zone, up and down and up and down again, then up to the koppie. Here my bakkie didn't have enough ground clearance and had some serious scrapes. I'm now sold, I need those 31" just for the little extra lift!Donkey wrote:
Did you do the trail Werner? And hoe was dit?
We then all went to the play zone and Tjokkie showed the SFA's with his Vigo he can do a reverse up, then the battle started as Cassie also showed that it can be done, but with more zing!! We had a lot of fun in the mud and incline's and descents. The final obstacle I chickened out as I know my vehicle's and driver limitations! Maybe again next time when I have a but more faith in my ride, then my confidence should pick up! Thanks all it was a lot of fun! We ended up with a cold one and a lekka braai! Nice meeting you all (in no particular order) Mark, Jaco, Rikus, Wim, Cassie, Johan, Marius, Wayne, Francesco, Kenneth, Riaan, Tau, Graham, Willie, Everdt and all the rest that I cannot remember their names! And I really tried putting your faces to your nicks and real names!

Re: GTG 29 Jan 2012 Gauteng
I tried to post last night but experienced difficulty with my internet connection…
We (My wife and I) would like to thank all who were involved it the organizing of the event. It was an amazing success as usual. It was great to see so many people attend. Looking at all those vehicles and knowing they all are part of the family sends chills down your back. We are definitely a force to be reckoned with. It was great seeing everyone again and meeting new members. Let’s face it. Hilux is in our blood…
Even though we did not take part, it was great being there. Took a little stroll just to see what everyone was up to was awesome. Thanks to one and all and we cant wait for the next one…
