Re: 28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
Guys we need to start drawing a line here.
If you're in, you're in, but we cannot take any more vehicles on this trail. If we get held up at more than 1 obstacle for any length of time we're going to be stuck on the mountain until dark.. And with winter in full swing, we dont want that.
Who knows what the condition of the trail is like after the winter rain/snow?

Totally agree with Thys 20 vehicles is pushing it for this trail! Keiler, it's not that everyone's not welcome, but the trail can be difficult in places and with the weather as it is at this time of year, wet conditions make many of the obstacles that much more challenging and therefore time consuming. No one wants to be on the mountain after dark in those conditions! So it's a valid safety call, rather than drawing a line!

It is clearly stated in the first post that Tierkloof management recommend a group not larger than 15, 18 vehicles at a stretch, we are sitting at 22.
Would it be useful/adviseable to break into 2 groups of 10, with say a 1 hour departure delay for the 2nd group?

They recommend a group not larger than 15 to 18 vehicles at a stretch so numbers will be limited for the trail...

We can do that B, maybe let the overnighters go first starting at 8am and the day trippers coming in from CT leave at 9am or something to that effect?? But we must be sure there is enough time between the groups...Mr_B wrote:Would it be useful/adviseable to break into 2 groups of 10, with say a 1 hour departure delay for the 2nd group?
I am planning to leave Winland 1 stop at 7am on Sat, and everybody who wants to join the convoy is welcome.

Re: 28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
The list of people as I have it so far..... please don't worry about how many people want to go... we can divide into 2 or 3 groups leaving an hour to 2 hours apart... so its no sweat...
Camping is not an issue... There are some people that definitely want to camp... closer to the weekend we can work that one out when we see what the weather predictions are..

The owners of the camp recommended we had 15 at a time, so if we have more than 15 we split the group... I must also add that in my experience, things come up and at the last minute for some people and they can't make it... so the group could even land up being a lot less....

Re: 28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
Johannes miskien sneeu dit weer....
During next week I will put up a list for the 2 time options. I imagine the difference will be in whether some of us are camping or not... I know there are some diehard campers who will definitely be camping.. and probably quite a few who are optional depending on the weather forecast... I am not that keen to camp if rain is predicted because thats just messy... but not to bothered about the cold...
Probably those that want to get back home early will want to go in the first group, I imagine the campers have the whole day so are not too fussed about going later... Think you must think about that for the time being..

Re: 28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
Just spoken to Willem from Tierkloof... obviously a lot of final decisions are going to be weather dependent ie camping, kuier after the trail..
If the weather is suitable we have 2 camping options... one at Tierkloof itself at the start/end of the trail, there are braaidrums, ablutions and electrical points... or at Wilko's friends farms, where we have to have a minimum of 9 adults to camp to use the facility...
We can have a braai get together after the trail, that also depends on whether it is raining or not, as there is no fixed building we can shelter in..
Soooo, if the weather looks good, bring goodies to eat and drink, and bring firewood... Drums are available but not firewood...
First getaway time appears to be 8-8.30 from the posts, and depending on how many leave first....the next group an hour to 2 or after them... for the second group we could even drum up a little breakkie GTG while waiting to do the trail... we can plan that next week
Mmmm just thinking, bacon sarmie breakfast and coffee, or for those not into bacon, fried egg sarmie breakfast and coffee... I have a skottel

Oh, and for Thys's benefit the 3rd group can light the fires for the 1st and 2nd group so that when they reach the end, the fires will be ready

I agree Johannes
Of course I expected that because we drive Hilux's the first group would be back before the 3rd group left... but then I think there is a Ford in the bunch.... so well..... we must wait and see

Die wat eerste opdaag en vroeg huis toe moet ry, ry eerste 8-8.30... so tussen 10 en 12 voertuie...;as hulle wil kan hulle so lank vuur aansteek en kuier terwyl die tweede groepie klaarmaak....;
die wat nie haastig is nie en eers n brekkie en koffie wil drink, ry tweede.. ie so omtrent n uur of twee na die eerste groepie...omtrent 9.30-10.30
