Main Gear lever assistance : Urgent
Hi Guys,
I have a very specific problem, as I am quite a tall person my left leg constantly pushes against the gear lever and this causes immense wear on this part (knee and lever).
I have two ideas in my head:
1. get a modified gear lever - bent 1.5 - 2.5 inches to the passenger side
2. get a shorter gear lever - similar but just higher than the 4x4 lever
Can you perhaps help me with obtaining one of the two ?
This is consuming so much of my driving pleasure and I would like to remedy it as soon as possible. You can PM me or contact me directly at jaco.fourie at Yahoo dot CO dot UK.
Kind regards,
Jaco Fourie

3. Amputate your left leg (not a very good option, probably quite painful, I would guess...)
But it will save wear & tear on the gear lever...

Hi Jaco
Take out the gear lever you got and bend it.
Mark where you want to bend it and on what direction..
Heat it and bend it to the required angle.
I found that if you want to be presice on the bending, take a wire and bend that to the angle and place you think would remidy the iritation.
Just make sure you paint the lever again as with the heating you will take off all the paint.
I did a similar thing when I did the body lift on my KZ. I extended the lever.
I hope this helps...

Just make sure that there is not a rubber bush inside the lever before heating it.Pote wrote:Hi Jaco

Re: Main Gear lever assistance : Urgent
If you bend it, be sure that it won't foul with the X-fer case lever when changing between 1st and 2nd. The better option IMO would be to shorten it a little .... no excessive heat and repainting either ... you just have to cut a new thread for the knob.

Re: Main Gear lever assistance : Urgent
Only advice I can give is to take it to your local engineering shop and have them cut, shorten and re-atach it.
