Re: Hilux with "Mog" portal axles
This kind of conversion would be for serious play .... not cheap either, after changing out the motor and boxes - best would be to use the Mog box and X-fer box - that way at least you would know that the drive-train can handle the bigger wheels. Should also be able to handle a V8 comfortably. But in the end you have improved approach, break-over and departure angles with much better axle clearance. Also not to be sniffed at is the improved COG with the wider wheel base.
The only thing that would concern me is how much different (shorter) the wheelbase is on the Hilux than on the original Mog, since this will influence the geometrically correct steering and the wheels will scuff on turns.

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Guys this truck does not belong to me, it belongs to a friend here in Queenstown, he did mention that he has a truck transmission fitted and that he is busy making alloy wider fender flares, he drives it on the tar roads but mostly uses a trailer for it from A to B, he just had it in town for a matric farewell party this past Saturday, he took some people to their party, two ladies in front with him and the two young gents were on the back.
