Taking dogs with to Nam/Botswana
I want to do a trip to Namibia, through Caprivi to Botswana. But I want to take my 4 dogs with. Is it possible to take dogs along on such a trip? I'd still like to do as much Safari type driving as possible, but not sure which places would let me take my mutts with.

Hi Ed, you will not be able to take the dogs across the border.

Re: Taking dogs with to Nam/Botswana
Hi there
I have been living in Botswana for the last year. I don't know about dog friendly game reserve or lodges in the delta or the most popular places, but you can definitely get yourself a movement permit that will allow you to take your dog's in. It last for 3 months. No clue about Namibia though.
You will need to take your dog's to a private vet to inspect them, they need to fill out a "pink form" which you then need to take to your local state vet to get the permits. You will need proof of all their normal vaccinations (eg rabbies). Please call your state vet for the precise info you will need. If I remember correctly it costs less than R100 per permit (per animal).
I suggest you contact the Botswana veterinary department to ask about crossing the veterinary lines though. Big problem with foot and mouth in cattle and game here. Although dogs aren't carriers, I would just get clarification from them first.

Awesome, thanks. Apart from getting them across the border my concern is where I can take them. I'm not looking for lodges or the such, I want to camp. And do some offroading of course. But I don't know if I'd get into those kinds of places.

Unfortunately I have no clue myself. You would have to phone around.

someone told me that "it's better to ask for forgive than for permission". I would rather not ask for forgiveness from inside prison

Re: Taking dogs with to Nam/Botswana
You can get the dogs through border posts by getting the required permits.
You cannot however go in to any game parks or conservation areas with your dogs.
I love mine as well, but leave them at home or the SPCA.
Most campsites will also not allow pets, ANYWHERE.
If there will be an exception at pet friendly campsite, usually a small lapdog on a leash,
With you poopscoop always on hand.
My staffies are not allowed anywhere,
Eventhough they will not kill the lions or chase the efelants.
